Three one hit wonder love songs from the 70's.
Gentlemen, we can rebuild her. We have the technology. So this is not quite the Six Million Dollar Woman, but it's at least good news for those unlucky 1 in 5000 women who suffer from Mayer-von Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser Syndrome. That's quite the mouthfull... the name of the syndrome, not---stop while you're ahead.
Come out, come out, wherever you are. Everyone put on your "shocked" face. (Seriously, couldn't be happier for him.)
This is the homework update thread I got a paper back last night - 5 pages, 20/20. Professor also wrote Bravo - Excellent! on the back page. Very pleased with myself.

Before that I took my Sociology of Gender midterm. I think I did well, maybe a high B or a low A. We'll see on Monday.

For this weekend I have two chapters of Culture Builders and some of the book for Sociology of Gender.

Two other undergrads in my department told me they hate the whole department and wish they didn't have to be at our school. I felt sad.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Sitting on my porch, bent but unbroken (along with birthday boy Hugh Janus) , is none other than the mighty Joe Famous, who says hello and thank you for the cards and gifts. He'd have posted this himself but he cant recall his password, but we're having a good time drinking beer and hanging out.

If you'd like, would you read a story of mine?
Even if you find the beginning terribly dull, I'd like to hear that.

I'm not looking for feedback for a class, I'm genuinely curious how people react to this story.
Cliche. 1832, borrowing of a technical word from Fr. cliché, printer's jargon for "stereotype," supposedly echoic of mould dropping into molten metal, thus pp. of clicher "to click." Figurative extension is first attested 1888, following the course of stereotype.
(From the awesome things I learnt today file)
In-depth(ish) critiques of No Child Left Behind? I'm doing a lot of reading on NCLB for work, and I'm only getting one side, which is making it hard for me to actually understand the arguments (pro or con); the stuff I'm reading is demonizing the opposition to the point where I'm a little suspicious of any of its claims. I know there were bunches of articles about it when the legislation first passed, but does anyone have a favorite critique? Or thoughts about where I might find one?

Teacher show? Et cetera show?

Think of you all while spending this gorgeous week on the Cape (Cod) Thought you might enjoy some of the scenery [mi].
So I took some things in to be sharpened... There's a very nice couple who come over from another island once a year and set up their sharpening van by the market for a week or two. They do an excellent job, and I had several knives and an axe that needed attention. I had a day off last week, so I spent the morning doing various chores, including treating my hair with coconut oil to counteract the nastiness that drywall dust and paint wreak on it (thanks, taz & ico!) I washed my hair, threw my tools into my backpack, and set off for the walk down to the market.Read more...

Picture yourself standing on the globe. Which direction are you facing? I'm always looking northward. East is to the right. West is to the left. Unless I'm driving, in which case I picture myself looking in the direction I'm driving. How bizarre. Another question: Does a "daylight lamp" really do anything to produce better light for photos and for S.A.D., or is it all in the bulb?

Happy July 4th... here's some Pimms and Champagne! The local art museum is having a fiesta to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, and is serving Sangria and offering salsa dancing lessons.

This seems a bit funny, given that Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican holiday and that sangria is a Spanish libation, and salsa dancing is afro-carribean. I don't know if this sort of thing is generally offensive to Mexicans or Mexican-Americans, just kind of seems thoughtless and stupid. Or, am I plate of beansing again?

The Shield might be a good show, I've only watched it once, but constant, ubiquitous promos I've seen lately force me to say: (In a stereotypical dramatic TV announcers voice building to crescendo): "Vic Mackey is a tough, pissed-off cop. VIC MACKEY DEMANDS LOYALTY. VIC MACKEY OFTEN RESEMBLES A SMALL, FLACCID, ANGRY PENIS, PISSED OFF BECAUSE IT CAN'T GET BIG AND ERECT." I guess he's just a good actor that way.
