The Salvation Army has a long tradition of using music as an outreach method. In the early seventies they decided to take it a step further and put together a rock and roll band. Their album is available for download here. It's surprisingly pretty listenable.
I should add: I'm not prosyletyzing. And I'm not mocking the Salvation Army (an organization that's done more good than I ever will) either. I just find these early 'Jesus Freak' records disarming in their guilelessness as opposed to the more cynical 'Contemporary Christian' product of today. And sometimes they're good listening.

The 70s were the heyday of Christian rock for me. It was my "born-again" phase, and I did some stage work around the Chicago area for many of the religious bands that came through - Steve Taylor, Petra, Resurrection Band, The Daniel Amos Band, 2nd Chapter of Acts . . .

I don't listen to a whit of it now, but for awhile there it was all I listened to (operating under the horrible assumption that all other art was the work of the devil - glad I grew out of that).

I'll have to check your link out when I get home.

I remember the '70s were big for Christianity. We had Christian Bob Dylan and Kris Kristofferson albums in our house. Lots others, too, I'm sure, but I can't remember them now.
