Web design/layout help? I have (electronic) print-resolution photos. I am trying to put them online, using Dreamweaver. How do I compress (is that even the right word?) the photos to make this possible?
Do you mean resize? I use paint.net, a rather nice freeware app.

What photo manipulation programs do you have available? How many photos do you have to convert? If it were only a couple, I would just upload them to flickr and then download/save of those resized versions.

It's seven or eight photos.

I don't just mean resize, I think -- the files are HUGE because they're high-resolution for print. I need to make them low-res.

dano, that makes me feel better. I've been uploading them to some MSN photo-sharing application (I don't actually have a flickr account) and then saving them from there, but it seemed so inelegant I figured it was probably a stupid way to be approaching it.

Sigh. I need more photo knowledge, cuz right now, I gots none.

If you do use a program, drop the resolution to 72 pixels/inch.

Do you have photoshop? You can alter the resolution there. Heck, I think you can even do it in Word--paste the picture in, select it, then hit the Compress button in the image menu thingie.

Yeah, I know you can do that in PowerPoint, which is why I was thinking there must be an easier, one-click sort of way to do it from the folder itself, rather than all the copying and pasting I've been doing.

I try to stay away from Photoshop. It seems that very bad things happen when I go into Photoshop. It's a back-away-slowly situation for me. :)

In any event, I seem to have it working now, and y'all managed to make me feel like less of an idiot, which is nice.

Now that it's working, you should have a martini.

Since I only work a half day today, I may just go do that.

Resampling, I believe, is what changes resolution.
