I have never watched TAR, but every time it is brought up I am compelled to point out that I used to live around the corner from Phil Keoghan, and once he helped me when I fell off my bike. Also, his mother taught me in high school. That is all.

I've never watched a whole show, but every single time I've come across an episode while channel surfing, I would see and hear exactly the same thing. Two people being filmed from behind. They would be running, and the contents of their backpacks would make jangling clanging noises while bouncing around, and all you would hear (in addition to the clanging and jangling) would be heavy panting and shoes hitting the pavement. Seriously, every. single. time.

I can't stand the beauty queens. I am indifferent to Eric and Danielle. I am left with Charla and Mirna. I am very conflicted.

I guess you have to root for mirna and shmirna but it does validate the speak loudly in a generic foreign accent school of American tourism, which I object to. "MY FREN, I FOLLOW YOU IN TAKZIH."

We watched the first half of this season until Sopranos started. Now the 8-9 block is devoted to watching my husband and brother-in-law compete at Guitar Hero.

The mister and I love TAR, though. We always try to figure out who would do what challenge. (He handles all eating and strength-related challenges. I'm in charge of balance and puzzles.) But if it's down to those 3 teams, I'm glad I'm not watching. I don't like any of them. I wanted Joyce and Uchenna to take it again. I fell in love with them when they shaved their heads.

Aren't they from the Ukraine or something? IE they have an actual, honest-to-god accent? Although last week one of them was talking to a taxi driver, and he didn't understand her, so she said it with more of an accent, and he DID understand her.

Charla and Mirna are the entire reason I gave up on this season. They're totally vile. (Well, to be fair, I only find Charla mildy vile. Mirna, on the other hand, is the embodiment of evil.)

They're Armenian-American. I used to live in a primarily Armenian neighborhood, so to my ears, Charla and Mirna's accent sounds about 99% generic American, with about 1% Armenian thrown in.

So that weird shit they do when they speak in broken English with a thick, fake Spanish/Russian/Chinese accent? Is 100% pure Ugly American.

I stumbled on an episode where people were in Sweden and had the choice of either counting Ikea stuff in a box OR building an ikea closet. First, two thirds of the couples chose counting stuff (!!), and those who chose building cabinets instead thought it was rocket science or something. I haven't laughed so hard at americans ever before.

Maybe it's a Swedish thing? I used to put up wall-to-wall closets in less than an hour (I did it instead of babysitting as a teen.) It's a lot easier than estiimating how many widgets are contained in two giant craters, trust me.

the thing that I find endlessly amusing about that show is when the contestants rip open the envelope which tells them where they are going next, and they almost invariably mispronounce the name of the country.
