I'd say it, but I'm afraid somebody might have a hissy fit.

Seriously. My daughter does a pretty good job of accepting "no", but on a few occassions, she's had complete meltdown conniptions. And my reaction, as much as I try to fight it, is to laugh. The idea of getting that upset about anything just strikes me as so absurd that I just can't help it.

Maybe that makes me a bad dad. Or maybe she has so few of them (seriously, only 2 or 3 in her entire life) because my reaction is to laugh at her, not to give her what she wants just because she's making a scene. You're not embarrassing me, sweetie, only yourself. Heh.

Playing it cool or getting the giggles is a great way to turn off a temper tantrum. I heartily approve.

"The best thing to do is to get your ass out of here. Best way that you can."
"Yeah, but how?"
"Catch the midnight express."
"Uh, what's that?"
"Well, it's not a boa constrictor."

Consider that you might be missing an eyeball when she gets big enough....
