Makes sense to me, but I've long since switched to personalized "iGoogle" page as my homepage. I only see the "Classic" start page when using other people's computers.
Heh, I never use google itself, just the firefox google search box so it doesn't bother me so much. And I've had a My Yahoo! customized homepage for, like, ever (jeez ... 10 years maybe? or close to it?? DAMN that's forever in Internet time) so I don't do the iGoogle thingie either. But CitrusFreak widescreens are good ... or do you not make invisible doodles with your mouse while browsing??
Until I saw that picture you posted, I could not for the life of me figure out what changed.
I saw this all over the internet: "ZOMG GOOGLE CHANGED THEIR HOMEPAGE!!!" I looked at it - ok, white screen, Google logo, search box... what am I missing?
Haha lfr, that's nothing, you should see the contents of my "check daily" folder. 70ish bookmarks divided into three subfolders. I usually just click "open in tabs" and browse.
I have no life.
And yay! I'll use google.ca then! I spent a good fifteen minutes searching for a way to contact google to say "your new layout sucks!" but alas, I could not find anything.
Uh, doesn't everybody know by now that Google rolls out stuff in dribs and drabs depending on your particular Google cluster?
Mine has the gray layout right now. Similar. And to tel the truth, I think you got a mistake. The menu thing is in the upper left for my search *results*, but it's in the middle for the search *page*. That could happen if you have a half-CSS update of some sort.
stilicho, I think this is more than just the usual delayed cluster rollout. People are very specifically seeing that their local country's Google hasn't got the new layout yet, and I suspect each Google territory will be rolling this out on their own schedule.
And, for the record, at google.com I now see the menu in the upper left like everyone else.
I'm getting the same (upper left menu) layout, and don't like it at all - for exactly the same reason as the citrusy one; it was nice and convenient for me to have the other search options just above the search field... especially since I'm searching images about half the time.
