I don't see what's wrong with copyrighting a number. Since you could argue that any text or music or image is easily converted to/from a number then any text which can be copyrighted as text should also be copyrighted as an equivalent number. Maybe there should be a minimum digit limit, but that's a different argument and one the sellers of DRM would be likely to win. Even if they don't win, they could pad any encryption string out to a requisite length.

Who would argue that this quite long number isn't under copyright? Is this the new wendell or the old wendell?

I'm going to repeat this ONE MORE TIME for agro and anybody who hasn't been paying attention: The "new wendell" of March 31st was trying to set me up for a prank; I tried to turn the tables on him and he disappeared; I was going to play with the idea some more for April Fools Day but got sick and ended up at the ER. Since my medical treatment included a brain transplant, I guess you could call me a "new wendell"...
