Sounds like a hoax, but actually it's the Hoaks. (Registration possibly required.)
Oddly enough, today in Everett, Washington another 30-odd-year-old woman pled guilty to posing as a teenage orphan boy in need of charity, but she pled to molestation charges (registration req'd user: burbia, pw: psychoburbia still works last I checked).
