Voice command software in the phone is independent of the headset. If the software isn't responding, it's either (a) not activated properly or (b) not listening. Here is an FAQ for you that might help. And here is the user guide for the phone. Take the phone/headset through the two processes you need to follow: pair the headset with the phone and activate the voice commands.

Yes it works with my Motorola headset and K800i. Setting up the voice commands is done with the setting menu, you select and record the names for your contacts. When you want to make a call, push the button on the headset, wait for the beep and say the name. If it accepted you'll hear the recorded name in your ear. If not I think you see something on the display. Make sure the boss records the names how she'll say it and in a quiet environment.

I quit using it shortly after I got it set up since it is more of a toy and looking up the number on the list -- or just dialing the preset -- is better than hearing my own recorded voice saying the name. And I hate to keep that headset in my head. I don't want to become one of those dufusses.
