I Have Been to the Mountain, People.... [More:] this weekend Miko and I went down to Boston and saw Edward Hopper's original works. Yes children, I've seen Early Sunday Morning, Nighthawks, Chop Suey, all of 'em!

I damn near cried.

Then we strolled about the North End and had marvelous Italian food and delicious bevandi at Caffe Vittorios'.

Sometimes the beauty of a man's life is knowing when it's really, truly beautiful.

Sweet Leapfrogging Jeebus, I'm drunk.

Ok, I totally didn't mean to post that- I was just using the link button to build links for a journal entry. Carry on, carry on.

Heh. Pomegranate chicken page.

No apologies! I'm glad I got to see that. That's some good advice right there.

It's funny that the one I acidentally posted had to do with the person who posted this thread.

I drool with jealousy. Edward Hopper is a god to me, and "Early Sunday Morning" is one painting I'd absolutely LOVE to see in real life.

In real life, they were utterly transporting. No reproduction can do them justice. To look at Nighthawks and see the age on the face of the man, his hawk nose, his companion folding some sort of paper. To experience the ambiguity, to wonder at the stories that he refuses to force on you. To understand that while loneliness and isolation may be there, peace and quiet, stillness and tranquillity, settled moments of poise and balance in a chaotic world are also there. Four rooms of paintings; no less than two hours, to look and look. And it felt like seconds.

Edward Hopper's painting Hotel Lobby is my favorite painting ever. (It's at the Indianapolis Museum of Art which is convenient for me to visit it.)

And my fave "That 70s Show" reference.

I posted this link the other day in BP's thread but I love it so much I'm giving those of you who missed it first time a second chance to see it.
