The correct URL is telnet://nethack.alt.org , but as usual, the Metachat forum software thinks it's smarter than me, and won't post it.

So I was explaining Nethack to occhiblu.

occhiblu: What is the object of the game?

ikkyu2: You have to go down to the bottom level of the dungeon and bring back the Amulet of Yendor. The Wizard of Yendor keeps it in his house down there.

occhiblu: So what's your character's back story?

ikkyu2: He is an at sign.

Pretty much sums it up.

For a game that involves repeated and often unavoidable failure, it's remarkably addictive.
