LinuxOnOldThinkpadFilter: SimplyMEPIS rocks [More:]Just in case anyone else tries to install linux on an old IBM Thinkpad, I (so far) highly recommend SimplyMEPIS. Ubuntu gave up the ghost upon restart, openSUSE was stable but slower than molasses (like WAY slower than windowsXP on the same machine!), took about 6 hours to install (not exaggerating), didn't recognize my wireless card and refused to install the linux wireless utilities. So far SimplyMEPIS is the only one that's really worked. An automated system update killed my internet connection, but I figured out how to disable the troublemaker after 3 or so installs, Otherwise, it's running much more quickly and smoothly than anything else I've tried.
Awesome. I have a TP770x that has refused Ubuntu every time I've tried to install it, and I had just about given up on using that old doorstop, but I guess I'll give it one more chance.

Yeah, give it a go. So far so good with sm (I invite more than 1 reading of that acronym). Hope it works for you!
