"One night a woman falls ill and, within a few days, dies. With her, her husband loses everything that had bound him to his middle class way of life. He gives up his job as a senior clerk in a tobacco wholesale company, sells his house and leaves Washington D.C. He could take up his former profession again. Not that of a bookkeeper or an insurance salesman, but of a professional gambler. However the man, aged 43, makes a very different decision. He moves to New York City, finds a room in a small hotel, and begins to write. Dan James Marlowe is on his way to becoming a free-lance writer."Read more...

Charlie the Tuna. Some 70s commercial goodness. There is something about seeing old commercials that is fun and nostalgic, which is funny given how much I hate contemporary commercials and mute them whenever possible.

When does it become more polite not to respond? First Carlos Santana. Now Nascar? What?

I do have a pair of Carlos Santana shoes and they are beautiful. I don't know if I'll be purchasing Nascar shoes anytime soon. Most of them look unsuitable for driving fast.
Perhaps clueless question about FLDS I've been watching a few of these shows about the FLDS ranch in Texas. Dateline is running one tonight. What is going on, if anything, with the way that the women speak? The men speak in a fairly ordinary manner. But many of the women seem to speak in this lispy-wispy scripted flat tone. Not all of them. But many.
Pizza with Broccoli Raab, Roasted Onions, and Olives. Have I posted this before? OMG so good. I also add crushed tomatoes, because I find pizza without tomato sauce weird (unless it's grana and arugula, which I adore), and I use fresh mozzarella sliced rather than grated, but this is seriously the perfect pizza.Read more...

Standard-shift gearbox question . . . . So let's say I put the car in reverse and then, instead of breaking, while I'm still rolling backwards, I put the car in first and slowly let out the clutch till I move forward. Am I slowly grinding down the teeth on first gear? Not good?

This is one of the sweetest, cleverest, most-loved and all around finest animated films ever made, with a beautiful simple expressive drawing style and an equally charming soundtrack.

This is a noisy ugly god-damned travesty even worse than I had feared and I thought I'd feared the worst, but no-o-o-o-o. I didn't forsee it would be entirely done by a studio of full of brain-damaged monkeys with a pirated copy of Poser, a sack of "phat beats" and an inexplicable grudge against everything decent in life. No, I would not have predicted that. Pfúúúúúj! Hipp hopp my ass.
Another mini-girl Mecha Yep, it's got girlie bits. There's a big arrow on the pic I have pointing at the labia (although the ultrasound tech has labeled the pic "girl parts". Hee.)

This is the saddest thing I've read in awhile. I don't know, whenever kids are involved, it always gets to you. And this time, they were on their way to school, to give their last exam, before the summer holidays would've begun, and they could've started to enjoy themselves. Fuck.

Radio Mecha Demographic Survey One thing that would be helpful, as a broadcaster, is knowing when people are likely to listen. I used to do a lot of late night (for me - early AM for Europeans, I think) shows, but I stopped because no one was listening. You folks who are interested in listening - when are you likely to do so? Read more...

MetaChat has "finances" ? Cool. I had no idea. How? How much? From whence? Should I even ask? Or should I not tamper with delicate innerMeChaworkings?
cross your fingers for me So we have a lot of contests at work. Usually it's "team to sell the most Product X in the time frame all goes to the hockey game/ gets $50 each/ etc."

Well, my team just won eight laptops. Problem being, they use a computer program to draw eight random names out of the 20 on the team.

So, wish me luck!
Your thoughts on Radio Metachat Please. It looks like the radio facility for metachat is not really being used. Of course, just as I was posting this, wendell decides to play a set, but anyway. In general it's not used. In the last three weeks there's been less than 2 hours played. Because the radio costs money (more than half of metachat's finances goes towards supporting it), I was thinking of canceling it. I'd like to know what everyone thinks about this before a decision is made.
Whatever Happened to Radio MeCha? Well, somebody's got to do it, so at the top of the next hour (Midnite GMT, 8PM EDT, 5PM PDT) Wendell Wadio Weturns to Wednesdays with my MOST RANDOM SET EVAH!

NYC Meetup : Air Hockey at Manitoba's this Monday! Hey all. I've been a lurker on this site for a while, and I'd like to finally meet you all. Important philosophical question: If a black cat crosses your path, but you stop to pet it, and it gives you its belly, and you do the belly rub for a good two minutes, and the cat purrs, does that negate the bad luck? Or, does it make the bad luck that much worse because you've now got black cat belly cooties on your hands?

Please hurry. Need to know soon. kthxbye.
