Minor grumbling inside. [More:]So I'm wearing my Brooklyn Cyclones t-shirt today, and it's a kid's shirt. Why is it a kid's shirt? Because when I was at the game last year, and wanted to pick up a t-shirt, I couldn't find one in "girlie" style (you know, fitted, cap sleeves) that wasn't freakin' pink. Every. Single. Top. I just wanted a women's style t-shirt, in the team colours. It's obviously too much of an ask though. They did have like, 12 different pink styles though. Yay.
Well, you're a girl, aren't you? Why would you want a shirt that wasn't pink?? I don't understand.

Hee. One of my classmates showed up a few weeks ago clad entirely in BRIGHT pink sweats, with her college logo on them. Big pink hoodie with the college name, big pink sweatpants with the college name going down the side. And Ugg boots.

The instructor kept calling her "the little pink bunny in the corner over there." She really did look like some sort of Barbie nightmare muppet.

On preview: TPS's comment flashed REALLY FAST and REALLY BIG in front of my face when I hit "preview," then disappeared. I think I'll be having subliminally induced self-esteem problems for the rest of the day. Yikes.

I just got this new hawaiian type shirt from a free rack. Very high quality, thick cotton with these embossed palm trees in the fabric. Can't wait to wear it, if it ever warms up around here.

It's salmon colored. . .both wife and daughter have given it the thumbs-down, but I plan on wearing it anyway, at least a few times, to see if it "works."

The prevalence of women's sports team apparel that is pink (or baby blue, or lilac or any color other than the team's colors) is something that makes my blood boil.

I like girlie style tees but they're always too small and it makes me mad. Look, I'm not gigantic here - I'm a size 12 for godssakes - but I am tall and even the large or extra large girlie tees are always tiny on me, too short and too tight. And if they're tight across the chest on me (in the immortal words of my ex husband "All you artsy chicks got them little teeny artsy boobs") then they have to be way too tight on most women. Bah. Why can't they make them so they fit actual women and not just eenie little teenie girlies? I guess they'd have to change the name or something.

Girlie tees are the only t-shirt style that fits me. An adult's small comes halfway down my thighs, and a kid's it too tight around my boobs (no, trust me, it's too tight in a not good way) and cut me in the armpit.

I hate it when all the girlie tees are pink.
posted by Specklet 08 April | 15:18
I agree. Please offer more colors in the girly tees, girly tee makin' people. And please make sure to offer an extra large. Then, I will buy one and wear it. Profit! I have one that I love. It IS light blue, but I wear that color pretty often anyway.

Regular shirts, I'm a medium. Girly tees, though, I always have to go XL. And regular tees have a habit of being too long and kind of scrunching around my midsection. Damn lack of torso!

Also THE PINKENING OF ALL THINGS MUST END! They now have pink Monopoly, pink Scrabble, even those stacking rings for babies come in pink lest some poor mother inadvertently lesbianate her daughter by exposing her to the full rainbow.

Actually I've been more and more in a pink mood. I just bought pink jeans today, in fact.

I don't know why. I just loved the color, and I love these jeans (I have them in other colors), so I figured "Why not?"

I actually very much like pink. I just don't like it when it's presented as, "The boys get to wear (or play with) all the colors. The girls must wear (or play with) only pink."

Plus, I like it when men wear pink. That's one of the things I miss about the South -- men being comfortable wearing pink.

the thing that makes me rage is when the marketing dudes behind high-end sporting equipment (skis, snowboards, bicycles, climbing gear) think they can get away with marketing something at 130% of the cost of its 'unisex' equivalent as 'women's specific' by 1) cheapening the build components or workmanship (promoted as: "we softened the flex/lightened the frame blablabla") 2) building some kind of "empower-the-grrl-within" webpage / site sector to trumpet how awesome and Title Nine embraceist they are, and 3) colouring the entire thing [pick one] pink, teal, lime green, lilac, baby blue or 'sorbet' (choice of disgusting orange or raspberry sherbet hues)

PASTELS AND CHEAP WORKMANSHIP: DO NOT WANT

I was wondering about that lfr. . women's bike helmets for awhile were marketed as having a "Ponytail Port." Well right now I have to flop my pony tail on top of my head and smoosh the helmet on over it for it to work to ride a bike. .. I would like to find a helmet that I can wear a pony tail down with. . .as long as it's not pink or lavender or say grrl anywhere on it.
posted by danf 08 April | 17:43
they can't do a ponytail port anymore these days danf because SNELL / ASTM / ANSI regulations since, oh, about 1998 have required that bike helmets must have some form of occipital harness / retention system; i.e. the 'roc loc' or whatever it is that hangs down in the back to tighten it around the base of your skull.

so... yeah.
posted by lonefrontranger 08 April | 17:54
oh and: it irritates the hell out of me, as I am now proud owner of a wrist-thick, 20" long rat's nest/horse's mane. Way I circumvent the issue is to 1) adjust the helmet correctly (the front edge should brush the tops of your eyebrows) 2) ponytail my hair low, at the nape of my neck 3) wear a cycling cap, beanie or bandanna to hold the rest in place or 4) screw all that, pull it forward over my shoulders and braid it into 2 pigtails... which I have to do now during races anyhow as it's gotten so long it interferes with their photofinishing equipment - riders can get DQ'ed if their hair covers their race numbers.

Younger Boy insisted on wearing the daycare's extra pink pants the other day. Teacher tried to talk him out of it and failed. Later they noticed that the pants matched his Guatemalan jacket.

My new suit looks best with a pink Charter Club button down shirt with a white collar. It--and I--look awesome.

I prefer jewel tones....even at my proper weight I won't wear cropped, fitted or baby, given that I look like a miniature linebacker with tits.

Hey, I've got nothing against pink. I have tons of pink clothes. I just... don't think the Cyclones play in it.

I do have a few things in the cooler shades of pink....were you trying for the podelet at the time? I'd've picked something I could have worn all season.
