Death Note [poss. spoilers] Okay, so I just finished Death Note. Without spoiling the end for anyone, who else was disappointed by the way things turned out? Who else wanted things to go the opposite way? What does this mean about my (and your?) values and ideas about society?

Sorry, I'm talking about the anime. Specifically, I wanted Light to succeed in his vision, despite the fact that he was definitely evil.

Ah ok - well the manga and the anime are pretty close.

I don't think Light is evil as such - I think he definitely thought he was doing good and the right thing. But the power eventually drove him bananas - which is really the expectation of the Death Gods - for them it's just a game.

To be honest though after the whole L "thing" it fell off the rails a little for me. I understand wanting to be different - but the story lost focus after that.

I halfway expected him to succeed in some fashion but yeah, the end was lame. He could have failed and still the ending could have been much better.
