I believe it gives you more difficult passages based on your skill level. Thus the first one you ever do is insanely easy, the second one perhaps significantly more difficult, and then it begins to average out.
I've done 3, and have an average of 94 wpm.
I think I'd have more if it weren't for that stupid thing where they scroll the words as I'm looking at them. That really messes me up.

I'm guessing copy-and-pasting, but there might be a more clever ruse of some kind.

(Folks who are really obsessed with this ought to pick up the game The Typing of the Dead. It's really good.)

I believe people are typing in the first few bits, then googling for the rest of the passage.

wow- there are some fast typists on that board! I thought I was pretty fast, but throw in some quotation marks or exclamation points and I'm doomed.

Also, when things aren't punctuated or capitalized the way *I* think they ought to be, I go much slower or have to go back and correct.

I gave them my feedback on how scrolling makes me cry:

Thanks for your suggestions! I've had lots of requests to turn off
scrolling, and it's coming soon!

Cheat protection is also in the works.
