What's the deal with Turkish soap operas and YouTube? Does anyone know why stuff like this is consistently on the "most viewed" page of YouTube? OK, so the population of Turkey is 70 million, but why is YouTube so popular there?
Total guesses: more computers than televisions? Relatively small number of native speakers leads to a small pond, televisual-entertainment-wise?

The appeal of Turkish-language content is not limited to Turkey. There are many Turks in Europe; it may (or may not, I'm not an expert on these matters) be difficult for them to get Turkish programs on local cable.

Maybe the Turkish TV market doesn't have the same flexibility and responsiveness as other markets; if you want to see that show that you loved six or seven years ago, and don't want to wait for the state TV networks to rebroadcast it, you go to YouTube.

Those are my guesses.
