Charlie the Tuna. Some 70s commercial goodness. There is something about seeing old commercials that is fun and nostalgic, which is funny given how much I hate contemporary commercials and mute them whenever possible.
I am not a muter (I'm not blessed with a remote) however I teach Perle to boo and hiss at bad ads, like that superannoying Lambi ad where some girl who must be the marketing directors daughter does the worst surprised face in the world, and an uncomfortable second after that, cranks it up a notch - no edit. We get to see her bad acting for 5 seconds straight. God I hate that ad. I mean sheeesh, we get it in the first second, the girl is surprised because a lamb runs to greet her. Big woop.
(in previous edits, the lamb soaks up the rain but some moron has edited this part away. I swear the same footage has been re-edited to twenty different ads over the years - it's been running for more than five - the only thing that remains constant is that crap surprised face)
I used to have a Charlie the Tuna Am transistor radio. I listened to overnight radio on it as a kid. This was before the interweb obviously, but still, it was a way to feel connected.
Hey, it's three in the morning, I can tell odd childhood stories about a cartoon fish.
I picked up an inflatable Charlie the Tuna raft a few years ago at a yard sale. About 4 feet long, bright blue, fantastic, 25 cents. I never had much use for it, though, so I listed it on the local FreeCycle board. There were a few unenthusiastic replies to the listing, then Susan Tunis wrote in to ask for it. Apparently, the Tunis family really wanted the raft. Tunis. She got it, of course.
