Boy injured in Iraq facing visa deadline (Warning: heartbreaking picture). It'd be cool if the nice Metachat readers who are also American citizens alerted their Senator/Congressperson of this not-impossible-to-solve situation. Thank you all.
Good grief- can't his foster family at LEAST make sure he stays fluent in his own language? Outrageous.

I'm somewhat puzzled by your reaction to this story, small_ruminant.

I think the foster parents are dealing with this incredibly difficult and heart-rending situation as best they can:

Recently, Julie Robinett Smith took Hamoody to a conference on raising blind children and came away deciding that she, too, needed to learn Braille so she could check his homework. Hamoody has been a student at a developmental preschool for disabled students, offered through the Snohomish School District. If he remains in the U.S., he will start kindergarten in the fall.

My outrage is directed at some of the other actors in this tragedy.

They are assuring that he will never be able to fit in with his birth family. Then they'll say it's in his best interests to stay here, and to hell with his family.

Reminds me of the native Americans and Australian Aboriginals getting adopted out "for their own good". Bleh.
