Chickpea and feta salad. [More:]With the added bonus of a Gordon Ramsay video to demonstrate. And he only says 'fuck' once.

I bought a leg of lamb yesterday that I was going to cook Greek-style. I think I'll make this salad to go with it but will add some black olives too.
Mmm, it looks good. Question: chick peas - are they full of carbs? Also what are tinned ones like? Good or useful for puréeing only?

They are high in carbs and also in protein. Nutritional info here. Tinned ones are great. Most cooks use tinned ones.

That looks great. I'm not a fan of celebrity chefs, but Gordon Ramsay really understands food. I've made a few of his recipes, and they've been great. His broccoli soup is a staple for me, and I make it with a smoked goat cheese.

For another chickpea recipe, I made this pasta dish from Mark Bittman's blog. It was way yummy, and I'll make it again soon.

And yes, canned chickpeas are really good.

This is the sort of stuff I eat on a regular basis. I like to say I have a mediterranean tummy.

Gah - why do they have to be high in carbs? Stupid things. Boo!

Non chick pea related: I made a salad a while ago with roasted butternut squash, pear and feta (and all the other salad basics - cucumber, tomato, lettuce, etc) and it was really good. The sweetness of the squash and pear went really well with the tang of the cheese. Mmmmm.

Yum, TheDonF, pear is a great idea to add to a salad (I often add strawberries, orange or mandarin when I think of it and have some). A stronger cheese than feta would be good too - parmesan shavings, stilton or a good strong cheddar would be great with the pear.

I love chickpeas, they're a staple of my diet. I don't use the tinned ones, but instead cook up a huge batch very few months and freeze them in portions. I do the same with kidney and haricot beans - just toss them into the recipe as required. Yum this salald looks good Jan - I think olives would be a perfect addition.

Ooh! I have the ingredients for this, and Zack_Replica brought kalamata olives last weekend! I know what I'm having for dinner.

Yep, canned chickpeas are fine, but you'll want to rinse them first.
