The MeCha dating service strikes again. So, um, yeah, it's official.→[More:] As BitterOldPunk's comment implied, we're a couple now. I'm *gulp* going down to Alabama for a few months (within the legal limit if the INS is reading) to see if it works. Wish us luck! Also, anyone with experience with/advice about Cda/US relationships, and any information on how to do this without incurring the ire of the gov't is encouraged to chime in.

I married biscotti, who is Canadian from Toronto, after doing the long-distance thing for a while.

How to do this:

Nobody gives a damn as long as you're not married or engaged, and as long as nobody is trying to live in the other country.

Trying to live in the other country gets complicated.

Looking at things, you want to move BOP to Communist Canada. Several ways.

(1) NAFTA. If he has NAFTA qualifications and works in a NAFTA field, he can move up there relatively easily.

(2) Other work visa. This is either a serious and expensive pain in the ass for whoever might want to hire him, or a serious and expensive pain in the ass for him to qualify without a job lined up.

(3) Marry him.

(4) Unmarried partner. BUT, you can't do that less'n you've been living together a year, which you can't do legally, and it looks like the conjugal-partner thing wouldn't help you.

Basically the same thing applies in reverse for elizard to come to Jesusland.

Be aware that if you marry him and he moves to Canada, this may seriously limit your ability to travel to / through the US.
