So, didya file yet? Well didya? [More:] I am so st00pid. I wait to file my taxes until almost the last minute, and I'm getting a refund.

Duh.
No. I get an automatic two-month extension because I live overseas. Booyah.

Mine are done, but I have not yet sent them in.

Which is silly. But I owe money, so maybe it's not that silly. Sigh.

Did 'em a week ago. Did my passport application the following day. Next up in the important paperwork queue: my resume, and a lease.

Yeah, I just did. And what a bummer - I'm getting $300 less on my federal refund than I did last year, though all my numbers are exactly the same. What gives? Did they adjust the brackets while I wasn't watching?

The double bummer is that I always end up owing on state taxes, because I work in a tax-free state but live in a taxed state. So I was counting on the refund from the feds to cover the state taxes. Now I have to shell out the cash to make up the gap. How's a girl to get ahead?

Filed back in February, refunds already received, woot woot.

Fuck y'all.

Done, sent, got my refund, and spent my refund.

I've also already spent most of my rebate check, even though I swore that I would confound Bush's silly plan by using it to pay off some of my "consumer debt".

About a month ago, we owed around $600 though.

Haven't filed, because we owe. Will do so um, soon.

I filed everything already, and got my fed refund, which I used to pay my state. I wound up about 39 cents to the good. Sweet.

The mister filed in February and we got the refund in early March. The refund is earmarked for a down payment on a new vehicle.

I owe.. . they are all ready, I just need to hit send.

I'm single and I always get lots of money back. So I usually file within a day of getting my w-2. click click done cash!

Fuck y'all.

Sounds like someone is going to be pulling an all-nighter in about a week or so. Or, you could just move to Canada...

Ages ago. I had to do my taxes to fill out my FAFSAs for grad school. You can estimate it, but really, why bother?

I ended up owing gobs of money because I'm self-employed. LAME.

I did them in February because I was getting a refund. In years past when I owed, I always waited until the last second.

Is this where I get smug about Australia using the real financial year for taxes?

*hopes nobody remembers this around October*
posted by dg 07 April | 02:28
dg: I bloody hope not, cos I'm late. (and yes, for once I know they owe me....)

Yeah yeah, July, October, thing, whatever..

If I didn't deal with other people's savings and tax and crap all day, I might do mine effectively.... but I do, so I don't.

I filed as soon as I got my W2, I got my refunds a couple of months ago. If I weren't getting a refund, I still would have done them right away, then waited until 4/15 to send them in.
posted by deadcowdan 07 April | 06:39
Already spent the refund (paying off some debts, vet bills, and getting new glasses- fuckin' YAY I need 'em).
posted by BoringPostcards 07 April | 06:49
Got our refund back last week. Took only two weeks.
posted by Thorzdad 07 April | 06:55
What deadcowdan said, except that I had to wait around for a couple 1099s.
posted by box 07 April | 08:01
Last weekend. We're slow because of the 1099s/self-employed/and full time employed/receipts/itemizations and junque for the Schedule C stuff.

We will get refunds, but possibly will get audited one day and rot in tax jail because of shoddy bookkeeping. At least we go to the accountant to get them done, that's a layer of protection.

It makes me mad that a few thousand dollars of untaxed income makes us jump through hoops to itemize it down in order not to pay pay pay. And we have to take lowest witholding on the W-2s. Miko, do you withold the max from your pay to counteract the state thing? I don't know if that would work or not.

Done, sent in a month and a half ago, got refund, it's dwindling way too fast. And since I washed and dried my son's cell phone last week, it's about to dwindle even more. Yargh.

I sent mine in Feb, got my fed refund this week. And it sucks!! I don't get it. Not much has changed but I get $500 less this year. I am looking forward to getting that "economic stimulus" check.
My sister got like 6x as much back as I did. I am mad!

Yer all a buncha showoffs. I'll send mine in late, as usual. Certain traditions cannot be messed with.
