So.... the tornado siren is going off... [More:] The TV weatherman says there isn't a tornado, but baseball-sized hail is coming in.
"Uncle Seany, Auntie Taz, It's a Twister, Help!"

sorry

I read that as basketball-sized hail. That would have been something.

Stay safe, doohickie.

Here it comes. I'm at the "S" in FWS.

Ugh. My folks are just a little SW of you. Hope it's not too bad.

My dad's probably out trying to hold an umbrella over his tomato seedlings.

SW = SE. Not that anyone cares.

I care. :) How's your Mom doing? Wasn't she in the hospital?

Nickel-size hail downtown

I see it doohickie, it looks like it's coming for you. We had a couple hail storms in March. I was pulling into my neighborhood for one of them. It wasn't raining the entire way home, and then boom, hailstorm out of nowhere on my house. Lasted for about five or ten minutes and then it was sunny again. It was not baseball sized!

Run out and get a piece and take a picture for us. Just kidding!

Be safe!

Well the rain started... and we just lost the satellite feed on the TV

Heh, thanks doohickie. Yeah, she had heart surgery in September. She's doing really well. Her symptoms have improved quite a bit.

Bad news is that she had her follow-up heart cath on Tuesday. She was hoping they'd tell her that the disease was gone gone gone, but they didn't. Her pressure levels have improved, but not quite enough for her to get off the really expensive meds (which Medicare won't cover; bastards). She was pretty bummed by it -- she wanted them to tell her it was all over.

All things considered, though, she's really lucky and doing really well. I think she just needs a little time for that to sink in.

Thanks for asking. :)

Be safe.

Well we're getting the heavy rain now but so far no hail. Hopefully this is as bad as it gets.
posted by Doohickie 17 April | 20:19
Oh gah. Baseball sized? Hope you have a garage. Stay safe.
posted by Stewriffic 17 April | 20:21
Guess what? I forgot to turn off my sprinkler. It just kicked on in the middle of the heavy rain! Haltom City (NE of downtown) is getting the baseball size hail. Better them than me.
posted by Doohickie 17 April | 20:22
Ack. The hail cometh. :(

Stay away from the windows and stay online, we're thinking good thoughts... Gang, gang, the hail's all here!
posted by wendell 17 April | 20:31
Are these pics from tonight? That was quick. They don't look too damaging, hope your car is in the garage just in case.

The worst is past for us. Dallas is getting hammered now.
posted by Doohickie 17 April | 20:35
Yeah, the only car that's outside is this one:

Glad you're still here, doohickie!

Heehee, doohickie.

I just watched this entire video. That was pretty.

Since we can't be there with doohickie, here is a video of a hailstorm. Yikes! I feel so bad for the creatures in hailstorms.

(That's my sig pic for the Ford Escort forum. My sons drive that car.)

And shit, here it comes my way. Fortunately, I got my clients taken care of before it moved in. Unfortunately, my SO's got a flight that is supposed to land at DFW here in......8 minutes. Somehow, I doubt that'll happen.
posted by ufez 17 April | 21:22
And in all honesty, I'm going to be really pissed off if my car gets hail-damaged tonight. We're moving from a place with no garage to one with a two-car garage in less than two weeks. Fuck you, weather gods.
posted by ufez 17 April | 21:24
I've never seen hail that big! Be safe bunnies!
posted by typewriter 17 April | 22:17
So how'd things settle out, ufez? Is your car okay? Did your sweetie get home?
posted by Doohickie 17 April | 22:44
Thanks for caring, hickster. We (again) escaped the brunt of it. No hail, but a bunch of rain, which is still going on.

The SO's plane got put in a test-pattern, but she did wind up landing at DFW, albeit an hour or so late. She's on her way home now.

Given that all my concerns have been taken care of, I've just been reminded again that I'm lucky enough to have a dog that doesn't give a fart about storms.

Plus, the Stars won, so Yeah for that ;)

I guess I should check in to let you know I'm not dead. I was working on a stats paper all night. We got heavy rain and strong winds but thankfully only sporadic pea-sized hail. Thankfully my house was barely missed by the spot of the storm they said had 2 inch hail. I got to spend a break eating pizza and watching the rain so it was pretty good overall.

We had the first typhoon of the season dump a lot of rain on us but not as much as they though it would (they were expecting 200 mls).

I speak too soon... thunderstorm coming in...
posted by gomichild 18 April | 01:19
If you get hail damage, claim it. A friend of mine paid off her car with the hail damage (she was a lawyer and spoke with the insurance company to make sure it was legal) and I still owe on my slightly hail damaged car.
posted by Sil 18 April | 02:37
O, and hail seems all alien in pictures, doesn't it?
posted by Sil 18 April | 02:37
Wow, that storm looked ferocious on radar. Glad everybody's okay.
