10 April 2008

three point status update I am picking up my first gee-tar today and posted a question about it on askme.[More:]

Gypsies. Some of the Romanian ones speak spanish! A great discovery for both me and the gypsy lady who went "Hablas espanol?" The first thing she did was ask if I had any work ;P

Gypsies II: There was a massive brawl Weds. in the street in front of my flat between the Gypsy men and lads whose post is on the street corner, and an invading gang of Pakistani-origin youths. The police were called. It's a good thing I wasn't there or I would have surrepititiously filmed them and reported them to the president of the Central Mosque :)
Hahaha! Yeah, that's right suckas--BtGoG is on the watch!

Hey, I'm glad you got the gee-tar and all. Should be fun learning how to play a musical instrument. My dad had gotten me one of those cowboy guitars when I was like 5, and I think I broke all of the strings within the next week or so, and then proceeded to use the darn thing as a cricket bat, after which, at night, when it was time to go to bed, I remember filling the hole in it with all of my toys. God, what a waste of a perfectly good instrument! (Hope you have better luck with yours!:))

Oh, and the 3 point status update is:

1. Dropped off the sis at college today for her final exam (her presentation of the project she was working on--hope she fared well).

2. Took mom to the tailor's to get some of her dresses made.

3. Wondering if I should watch porn or not?

Grace, please don't report me to any kind of Islamic authority. PLEASE I TELL YA!

1. Up for an early meeting with my playwright. Dramaturgy so early in morning!
2. Still wrestling whether to quit my sweet part-time fulfilling job because in fact it is too full and taking over my life even though the people/pay/work are great.
3. Thinking about trips in Fall/Winter - Tanzania with my sister in November for sure....

1. Recovering from throwing my back out on Tuesday. I spent yesterday mostly in bed but I feel good enough to go back to work today. Being 6'2" and sixty pounds overweight is probably not very good for my back.

2. Waiting for weeks and weeks for a bathtub to be delivered so that the contractors can start work on our bathrooms. Our dining room is filled with boxes of light fixtures, towel bars and faucets and the like. Once they start, we'll be without a shower for a few weeks.

3. Interviewing someone for a job in my department this afternoon, hopefully she's good and we hire her. It would be nice to not have four engineers doing the work of eight for a change.

1. Finally did my taxes, now I just have to update my resume and finish painting the dining room and kitchen to complete all of the major things that have mentally weighing on me for the past month and a half.

2. Not pregnant (which makes Mrs Agogo quite happy).

3. Tired of waking up tired.

Not much farther now, Papa Smurf. Hang in there.

  1. Got my Physical Medicine and Rehab doc's personal cell phone. Direct line to leg fixin'!
  2. I thought Floola had wrecked my Nike + iPod kit, but now I just think the sensor died. Which is awesome, because I like Floola.
  3. Having one of those "I've got too much stuff in my pants" kind of days.

1. took the blanket off of the window that was covering up the neighbor's xmas lights because the neighbors took down their lights a week or so ago. Feel all adult without a blanket over the window.
2. realize that by the end of today, I will have given a lecture or a class every day this seven day period except Sunday
3. I can see part of the lawn beneath the melting snow!

Also BtGoG, do you speak any Romanian? I know some if it's helpful.

hadjiboy, that's no way to treat an expensive musical instrument! ;P

gomi, homestretch! you're not obsessed, just normal. If you can, get a pedicure.

oh yeah...

1) Older Boy went to Kindergarten orientation yesterday. Likes the place, though hubby muttered under his breath about the seeming authoritarianism pervading the place.

2) Sinus headaches suck

3) Boss' boss' boss thinks I'm overwhelmed because he saw the list of tasks on the "not now, but soon" tab. He'll really be surprised when I pull out the "current things now!" list.

1. Busy day at work -- my favorite type: where I'm doing 20 different things at once. It's like juggling cats, and then someone throws me another one.

2. The above is NOT sarcastic. I like testing my talents 20 different ways.

3. Can you tell I glory in my ADHD?

1. Was in a great mood this morning.
2. This has now completely evaporated due to son who a) missed bus so I had to drive him, making us both late and b) forgot vital next years class sign up form. School will not give him another one because they are fucking bureaucratic monsters (I know this to be a fact, actually) so now I have to leave work, drive to my house, find the form, drive it to his school and then come back to work. This will take a minimum of one hour. And I have tons to do today which means I will now have to work late on the ONE DAY this week I thought I could actually go home at 5:00 and stay home and get some stuff done around the house while there was daylight.
3. AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
posted by mygothlaundry 10 April | 09:17
1. We've got to hire two people in the very near future. But, due to a perfect storm of bureaucracy and vacation time, I can't do much of anything about it today besides leaf through resumes. I spent a good chunk of yesterday doing that.

2. This person's resume is a complete blank for the 1990s. This other person's computer competencies are from twenty years ago. This other person's 'objective' is to get a job in the television industry (and, since I work in the public library industry, they may not have chosen the most effective approach). This other person has only had one job in their entire life, and it was at their church. I hope, fervently, that there's a decent candidate in this pile, because we need this person, like, a month ago.

3. Apart from that, I'm feelin' fine.

1. Apparently I just found out today that my boss has been trying to get me more hours. Which equals more money. Which makes me super duper happy. (Unfortunately, his boss is giving him the runaround. I can't wait until she comes down and I can be all 'ooh, look at the wonderful things I've done for the place. give me all your monies')

2. I'm anxious about my vacation because my scatter-brained roommate is the one handling the airfare (which I would normally do, but she's got awesome vouchers from her parents, which she hasn't actually gotten in her hands yet, but...) and I'm really hoping it all works out well because this will be my first 'all grown up and relatively by myself vacation including taking time off work officially' vacation. Which is awesome.

3. I've got my short day today, which is fab and also sucks immensely. It's awesome because yay! only have to pay attention to things for 4 hours (well, more like 2.5 ish now) but sucks because, ugh, my mother is home ALL THE TIME NOW since she is retired and therefore, feels the need to fuss at me ALL THE GODDAMN TIME.

  1. I did an insane amount of work on Friday and Monday to create a spreadsheet for my boss, which she totally dismissed when I first sent her the email with the documents by telling me I should have done it another way in a sort of "Why the hell is this project taking you so long?" sort of tone; yesterday she actually looked at the documents and emailed me back and said, "I didn't mean for you to do so much work, but this is exactly what I need and will make my part of this a snap. I can't believe you did all this for me." So I feel vindicated.
  2. Trying to decide what to wear today, since I'm in my unheated freezing internship office today, but it's almost kind of nice out, and I'll freeze inside if I'm not wearing a heavy sweater, but I also get cranky if I'm overheated or overburdened on the bus. Bah.
  3. The hummingbirds are very active this morning. They've been buzzing past my window for the past half hour. So cute!

Update to #1: I might be in better shape than I thought with my boss' boss because I just found 5 boxes of special collections stuff that have been missing since February. Of last year.

4. I ought to get some new dress shirts--several of mine might be too threadbare. What do you call that sort-of nubbly/pebbly-feeling mens dress shirt material? Oxford cloth? Broadcloth? I'm lost. As I'll be buying these hypothetical shirts at a thrift store, I guess it doesn't really matter. But I'm curious.

1. Drinking coffee, reading emails and MetaF and MetaC.

2. Have been fussing with my LinkedIn. Because Friendster, MySpace, and the rest I'm blanking on aren't enough.

3. Worrying about the older foster kid -- trying to get him into transitional housing.

Am I the only one who really gets this? I mean, a guy can have a LOT of stuff in his pants. . I have old ATM receipts, two handkerchiefs (because I forgot to toss the old one in the laundry), an extra set of keys, cellphone (because the shirt I have on has no pocketses), the folded up floorplan for last weekend's Clinton rally (not sure why I still have it), a bill I need to pay (but being in my pocket will make the glue on the return envelope no good so I'll have to tear the bill out and hand-write a blank envelope), and more loose change than I need.

I feel your pain bro.

(Unless you were just being cute about your Johnson, in which case, never mind.)

1. Had a hot dog for lunch! Yeah, street vendor!
2. Have to make a scary call to a funder **scared**

1. My shoulder was spazzing so badly this morning. I thought I was going to throw up and faint at the same time. At the moment it hurts, but just annoyingly so.

2. I met my friend for lunch today. One of the patients I see on a regular basis was at the restaurant as well. He bought us two chocolate filled croissants and sent them over. How nice.

3. The weather has been absolutely beautiful. I savor these sunny, breezy days before the intensely hot days of summer.

1. Little bits of hair on my neck from my lunchtime haircut. Glad for haircut, though.

2. Happy for beautiful sunny day.

3. Feeling awfully iffy about my summer business trip to China.

1. Am rocking at work lately. Had a few challenging staff issues to deal with, and they're all working out and I'm really happy with the decisions I've made.

2. Have to get two particular vocational qualifications for my job which are all work evidence based, so I have to write reflective pieces and submit work and be observed by an assessor in meetings and such. I met with my assessor today and I can't get blanket credit for the other, very similar recent management qualifications I already hold, but I can submit the work I've done for them as evidence. This is NOT the outcome I was hoping for.

3. I have to clean out my wardrobe (closet). I have too many frackin clothes and I'm encroaching on my poor boyfriend's meagre quarter of the hanging space. Should we do an international wardrobe swap, TPS?

Yes! Haha, that'd be fun. Although in reality, I think a lot of the stuff I'm getting rid of isn't very nice.

Same here, to be honest. Wouldn't be worth the price of postage. But it's a fun thought!
posted by goo 10 April | 13:37

I'm actually wearing a shirt (with a pic of Cheney on it with "Evil" above his head) from just such a party. It was indeed fun and I wasn't even invited (it was my wife's friends from work).
