Random notes on my laundry: My bleach brand name is "Fist"; my fabric softener is called "Ploffy"; my husband's trouser rivets are imprinted with the words "Homo Design". All true.

My detergent, however, is boring: "Dixan". They should change it to "Dixan stuff".

oh, also, my dish soap is called "Nelsen" and my floor cleaner is called "Rico". Seriously. My toilet cleaner is called "Harpic" and I have a spray cleaner called "Dasty". I also have a great general cleaner called "Swaz", that's biodegradable, non-toxic, blah, blah, blah, and you can only buy it in Athens.

My laundry detergent is called "Attaku!" (attack) and my dishwashing liquid "Fresh!" with the proud slogan in English "Daily Quick!".

Many product names here (Japan) are some messed up English.

i love the Arf. Make pictures of all of them. i say Attaku all the time. Little did i know i should have been doing laundry. i'm going to be ploffy all day.

Hehehe - household shopping in foreign places is fun.

In holland my endless giggle attacks came from "notities blok" (a notepad with no titties!), that bubble bath was bad schuim (bad scum?) and that whipcream is slagroom. Slag rum?

Also, robobank is the worst name for a bank. Say it out loud in an american accent and it's "rob a bank".

German product names aren't as fun as Greek product names, I guess. I use Fit to wash my dishes, Persil for my clothes, and Dusch Das for soap in the shower. But the other day I saw a plumber van with the name BUTSEKS on the side which made me snicker like the 14 year old boy I am.

yay, butseks!!!!!! Ha!

Most of these aren't Greek, actually; except for the Swaz, most of my cleaning stuff is Italian, because that's what the guy near me stocks. The Homo Designs thing - no idea where those came from, possibly greek but probably not.

Slagroom? heehee. We have a whipped cream or icing type of thingy here called "Morfat" that always makes me laugh.

My co-workers (who spoke Thai) used to alarm people at the Thai cafeteria where I used to work, because the Thai word for "hot" (as in Thai pepper hot) is prik, pronounced just as you think.

So, imagine a customer at the cafeteria line when one of the workers points to the beef dish and says something like "blah blah blah prick blah blah." (Which translated to something like, "Is the beef spicy enough?" but raised some eyebrows!)

I use the Ploffy "with perfume of marine freshness in light blue colour, first regularly in the preferences".

And it is Greek after all - I checked the bottle. And so is the Fist. The Nelsen and the Dasty are definitely Italian.

Ploffy sounds like a character from the Moomintroll books. I wonder if Ploffy knows Misabel and the Hemulen?

I use Pril for my dishes and Domol for my clothes. The latter - I am reliably assured - is COLOR. Nothing here (Germany) that quite lives up to Ploffy or Butseks, though.

(I prefer "Antibabypille", but most people just say "Pille" - just like the Pill auf Englisch.)
