Wow. I LOVE watching men's gymnastics. I think male gymnasts have the best athletic physiques - muscular yet not overdeveloped - everything in perfect proportion. The control and strength in the routines is awesome.
If that is indeed Leon Stukel (like *I* would know), my book here says he finished 2nd in the rings at the 1936 Olympics at age 37, representing Yugoslavia. But he goes back a long way: in 1924 he won the All-Around and High Bar events and was 4th in the Vault and Rings; in 1928 he won the Rings, was 3rd in the All-Around, and tied for 7th in the Parellel Bars; and in the team event his team placed 4th in 1924, 3rd in 1928, and 6th in 1936. I don't know what he was doing in 1932 -- injured, perhaps, or hopefully taking a rest, geez what an athletic guy.
This really shows how very different male gymnastics are now from how they were then. (Which is not to say either is better, just that they focus on very different things.)
