23 April 2008

I could use a drink. Drama, drama, drama (all work related, nothing I can really elaborate on). What are we drinking?
I'll be having a Pimm's cup in a little while. Mmm, pimm-y.

Diet Mt. Dew, caffeine free, ice-cold flavored fizzy water.
posted by mightshould 23 April | 16:24
Kentucky bourbon and diet coke, once I get home. Or, if it continues to be nice and un-thunderstormy, a margerita.
posted by muddgirl 23 April | 16:26
Twining's Prince of Wales tea over ice and Diet Coke.

The 12 pack of beer I bought last weekend is gone. I have given away all of my good wine in the last month or so. I'll bring a bottle to a function or my in-laws. The majority of the time we don't even open it, since other bottles are open. When I'm in the mood for a glass I kick myself that I have given away all of my good wine!

Best of luck for no more drama, TPS.

Oo, Pimm's. Lovely.

YOUR MILKSHAKE!

(I don't know what that means, but apparently it's some sort of internet hacker code phrase. I heard about it on the AOL.)

Homemade sangria. I make the best in the world, no lie. (Modest, ain't she?) I need a hammock and a sunny beach to go with.
posted by Specklet 23 April | 16:32
Lots and lots of agua, alas. I'm on antibiotics for a bladder infection. Feh. Course, the lable says no sun, not no alcohol.

I am, however, considering fishing the Susie-Qs from the trash. I threw them out yesterday in a fit of I-really-need-to-eat-healthier. Raw meat wrappers are the only thing stopping me.

What I really want now is a Chimay, a snickers bar, and some doritos. None of which I can have! boooooo
I think instead, I'll do some more work and eat the rest of my goat cheese and matzoh. Then go home and drink vodka.
posted by rmless2 23 April | 16:42
That's it, Specklet, we're having a sangria make-off. (Followed by a sangria drink-off, of course.) Because I, too, make the best sangria in the world, and there can be only one. *brandishes pitcher and wooden spoon*

I'm having a vodka and sprite. Mostly because the store was out of Aranciata and I'm too lazy to make up the frozen oj sitting in my fridge, and would have no room for the jug once I made it (usually partial to vodka, juice, and soda). Pips, maybe if you mixed the alcohol with cranberry juice?

What the heck is a Susie-Q?
posted by elizard 23 April | 16:45
Right now, gunpowder green tea. In a couple hours, IPA.

It's a Hostess something, isn't it? Also that song that CCR covered.
posted by box 23 April | 16:46
Ooh, we've still got some Pimm's! That'd be nice for after dinner tonight...
posted by me3dia 23 April | 16:48
It's beer especially beer weather lately but i haven't any.
i want to be a sangria judge.

Or the recipient of a violet drink when the tray comes around.
posted by ethylene 23 April | 16:48
I am having visions of Pips trapped behind a wall of raw meat wrappers. They are taunting her as they keep her from moving toward the trash, and waving their little germy appendages in her direction.

Strangely, all I'm drinking is water. I did have some nice grenache last night, though I had actually meant to open up the Southern Italian red, which would have gone better with the pasta. Ah well.
posted by occhiblu 23 April | 16:48
Someone explain Pimm's to me?

eliz, Susie-Qs are like HoHos, but I think they're flat, not rolled.
posted by mudpuppie 23 April | 16:49
Guinness. Surprise.
posted by rhizome23 23 April | 16:51
Room temperature machine-brewed coffee.

Someone explain Pimm's to me?

1 part Pimm's No. 1
2 parts lemonade
Slices of fruit (orange, lemon, apple) and mint and borage leaves.

Over-sweet, but delicious - the ultimate summery drink, everpresent at garden parties etc. Best appreciated on a punt.
posted by matthewr 23 April | 16:59
occhi, that's hilarious...

Not a bad suggestion, e, re cranberry juice cocktail. I give you, the Suzy Q (very close, pup). I did, however, spell it wrong, and apparently, a disturbing number of naked young women rather like it as a nickname.
posted by Pips 23 April | 17:03
Right now? Tall Flat White, extra hot. From Hudsons.

This article gives a decent description:

It's a British-bred concoction called the Pimm's Cup, a light semi-fizzy tipple that can take the edge off a hot day without the "morning drinker's fog." Made with an obscure English liqueur, various citrus mixers and distinctive slice of fresh cucumber, the Pimm's Cup ranks as an old-school New Orleans classic -- and one best enjoyed inside dark bars during broad daylight.

I I'm trying to de-sweeten it by topping off with club soda, and I sometimes skip the fruit, but I never never skip the cucumber slice.
posted by Elsa 23 April | 17:07
From the Hostess website: How do you eat a Suzy Q? Do you lick the crème filling around the edges or just bite into it? For more than 40 years, sophisticated snack cake connoisseurs have been licking their fingers while mouths full of crème filled Suzy Qs delight their taste buds.

Am I being too Freudian here?

(I, by the way, peel the lids off each cake -- they come two in a pack -- and make a double stuffed Suzy out of the remaining halves, alla Oreos. Decadent and delicious.)
posted by Pips 23 April | 17:09
Pimms is oh so good. But not that Winter Pimms stuff they introduced a couple of years ago. NO! DO NOT WANT! Just the traditional, awesome Pimms in a massive jug with half a tonne of all that stuff that matthewr mentioned in. I think you can put mint and cucumber in as well. It's all good.
posted by TheDonF 23 April | 17:10
Brandy. (Remy Martin, Xmas present).
posted by TheophileEscargot 23 April | 17:12
Ooh, yeah, Suzy-Q's! That's the one with the really, really spongey cake, isn't it?
posted by box 23 April | 17:14
Beer. It's unseasonably warm & sunny, and I have a deck. Yay!

posted by theora55 23 April | 17:22
Box: Indeed. And don't forget the "mouths full of creme."
posted by Pips 23 April | 17:23
i got some brandy to make butterscotch and now i can't find the recipe.
posted by ethylene 23 April | 17:23
(Right now, there's a tiny mouse exploring the outer perimeter of our den, behind the radiator, over the Godfather DVD, a dash to my sneakers... He's so cute. I think I'll call him Pimm.)
posted by Pips 23 April | 17:27
Watch he doesn't go for the snacky cakes! (and thanks for the clarification, mudpuppie & pips)
posted by elizard 23 April | 17:42
Ohhh, that Pimms drink sounds good. And the Suzy Q is making me want a Ding Dong (called King Don in Canada) or twelve.

Me, I'm drinking generic diet Coke.
posted by deborah 23 April | 17:46
i want a pimms. i've never had one.
What goes into a Pink Lady? Didn't Lucille Ball drink those?
posted by ethylene 23 April | 17:51
Pink Lady. Still want one?

If you're still looking for something to do with brandy, eth, it mixes nicely with ginger ale. No, really.

As for me, I'm not drinking anything at the moment, being as I'm at work.
posted by bmarkey 23 April | 18:15
Bleh.
Oh, maybe it was Pink Squirrel.

i don't really need one right now, i was having coffee. i like ginger ale lots but never have it.
posted by ethylene 23 April | 18:17
PEAR CIDER! Still! Again!
posted by richat 23 April | 18:19
Pink Squirrel. Creme de Noyaux can be tricky to find. To be honest, though, I don't think I've ever looked for it.
posted by bmarkey 23 April | 18:25
I'm drinking Bud. On the porch. Catch ya later.
posted by jonmc 23 April | 18:27
Corona. Had two airplane bottles of Malibu earlier.
posted by rainbaby 23 April | 18:34
I'm home now, and drinking some sort of Bavarian Hefe-weizen that MuddDude picked up.
posted by muddgirl 23 April | 18:39
Water. Boooooring!
posted by ramix 23 April | 18:59
Watermelon margarita. Well, I'd like one, anyway. But right now? Lactaid Milk.
posted by redvixen 23 April | 19:37
Now I'm gonna dip into my barley wine stash. If I'm not back in an hour, call the paramedics.
posted by jonmc 23 April | 19:45
deborah--Thank you!!!

I always wondered why I misremembered the name of "Ding Dong" as "King Don" because it makes no sense whatsoever. Why King Don?? King Don means something! You can't have a snack cake name that makes sense!

Now I can go to sleep understanding that I was one of the few, proud, Michigander King-Don eaters.
posted by Stewriffic 23 April | 19:53
At your service, milady.

*performs sweeping bow, falls on face*
posted by deborah 23 April | 21:29
Oh no, not again - all I have in the house is Jolt Cola and Pitú. Seriously! I have to get some other booze, I mean whatever happened to keeping some vodka in the freezer?
posted by dabitch 24 April | 01:24
Rhubarb and bergamot grappas.

Pips, the homeopathic remedy for bladder infections is cantharis--yes, aka Spanish Fly!
