MeCha Radio: Question - anyone interested in an impromptu 80's set (including a bunch of rockabilly in the middle)? I could start in about 15 min, as there's no one scheduled.
Do it. Early 80s if you can. i was thinking that way myself with something in the vein of Johnny Marr jangly guitar.
posted by ethylene 04 April | 21:34
Ok - the list is all over the place, but I'll see about the jangly stuff.

*ahem* Elvis to the centre stage please......

...and in 5...
posted by Zack_Replica 04 April | 21:39
I'm interested! I could use some rockabilly, it's a cold grey rainy night here.
posted by science girl 04 April | 21:48
Perfect.
posted by ethylene 04 April | 21:51
This set's about 2 hours (rockabilly in about 30 min or thereabouts). If anyone wanted to 'cast, let me know and I'll step down, as I didn't book time on the Wiki.

i'm getting some buffer stutter.

Where were you in the early 80s?
i was in the nyc tristate area and for that i'm thankful.
posted by ethylene 04 April | 22:01
i think i finally need this song. i didn't like it at the time because of a joke going around about "cum on Eileen," that and Sexual Healing, which i soon loved. Also, the inside out clothes thing was silly.
posted by ethylene 04 April | 22:09
I'm checking the stream through the windows media player, and it sounds ok to me... you have anything running/loading in the background? That can cause issues.

80's - in Vancouver BC on the left coast. We were really into punk stuff, and Echo & the Bunnymen, Simple Minds, U2 (War, Boy and October, of course. Everything else is meh), Shriekback. Tons of goth stuff like Bauhaus, Skinny Puppy, Pink Dots, Throbbing Gristle, Coil, Sisters, Test Dept.

On preview - yep on the inside out raggedy look.

Too bad we can't have some live skype thing for listener calls.
"Hi Zack! Can I dedicate the next one to my cat?"
posted by ethylene 04 April | 22:15
(hey science girl - rockabilly in 15 min!)
posted by Zack_Replica 04 April | 22:15
Somewhere is a box that is a time capsule of cassette tapes, three hundred little documents of the early 80s, half of which showed up as others were stolen.

It really bothers me they use this to sell pizza.
posted by ethylene 04 April | 22:18
While I am a big fan of the Captain's early work (dammit New Rose & Love Song are just about PERFECT songs) I'm not convinced about WOT!

/reminisces about Nick Cage in Valley girl while typing...

Haven't heard the commercial, eth, and I'm glad. :)

posted by Zack_Replica 04 April | 22:19
Good for them with money and all but cheesy in every way, which makes it so very unsurprising and that's even sadder.

Wot hand claps always make me laugh, but it is always too long.
posted by ethylene 04 April | 22:19
Wow i haven't thought of them in forever.
posted by ethylene 04 April | 22:20
Soooo weird, i had this and i was just thinking of all the stuff i had at that time yesterday.
posted by ethylene 04 April | 22:21
I think 'Wot' is fun and silly, and sums up The Captain pretty well. He was the one who wrote The Damned's Melody Lee - about a comic that appeared in a girl's magazine called "Bunty." Apparently he picketed the comic's publishers when they pulled it - 'Bunty Unfair To Readers!'.

Moev? Yah - they're from here! On the Nettwerk label, who hosted Skinny Puppy, Grapes of Wrath, and Sarah MacLachlan's (sp?) 1st album.

This is a really good set so far.

The B52s were on telly earlier and those girls sound the same.
i always think of them with early rem.
posted by ethylene 04 April | 22:28
Totally great set! Hope my griping about Wot wasn't misconstrued as non-enjoyment.

Is Nettwerk still around? They really had some names back in the day. Off to google.
posted by richat 04 April | 22:36
Well, how about that? Quite active these days.
posted by richat 04 April | 22:39
's cool - it wasn't taken as griping. It's a good song, but nothing I could listen to on a regular basis.

Maow is a three-piece off of the Mint records label, and features Neko Case on drums and vocals on that track. That was released before she went solo and got big.

"Nettwerk has joined the fight against the RIAA..." heh. yeah, these guys are ok, alright.

posted by iconomy 04 April | 22:49
Ha! I didn't even notice. I should've stuck them all together.
posted by Zack_Replica 04 April | 22:51
Man! I thought I heard Neko Case in there, but then thought, no...it can't be.

Freaking Maow. Man, they were great.

"toasted sandwich time"
got messed up in the link.
posted by ethylene 05 April | 00:48
Back bacon with thick onions fried at the same time in barely any oil at all. Aged cheddar. HP sauce, or my hot sauce. Crushed black peppercorns. Gracias. Nom nom nom.
posted by Zack_Replica 05 April | 00:55
That's a fine sandwich. i happen to have a good cheddar.
posted by ethylene 05 April | 00:57
Oh, wait, no white bread for me. I don't like it. Instead a nice Finnish wholegrain, thx. best bakery in the city, they are.
posted by Zack_Replica 05 April | 00:59
All i have is a seeded rye and tomato basil. There isn't usually much bread around. It causes too much toasted sandwich time.
posted by ethylene 05 April | 01:01
It causes too much toasted sandwich time.

You say that like it's a bad thing...
posted by Zack_Replica 05 April | 01:08
Everyone needs some toasted sandwich time, but you can't live there.
Unless you have a panini press and lipitor i guess.
posted by ethylene 05 April | 01:17
Toasted sammys. You can't live there, it's true. It's a crumby place, but nice to visit. It's why I just try to do interesting things with potatoes, instead. It's the Irish in me, praps.
posted by Zack_Replica 05 April | 01:23
Oh my goodness. I really want Zack's sandwich. RIGHT NOW.
