The "Buy one, get one half off" thing annoys me. That is not BOGO. That is BOGOHO.

I suspect that if you develop this same annoyance, it will supersede your despair. If only because internally shouting "BOGOHO! It should be BOGOHO! BOOOOOOH GOOOOOH HOOOOOOOOOOOH! BOGOHO!" at Payless every time you pass it is way fun.

Buy one, get one free = BOGOF. Normally, when you buy one of something, you get one of something. So BOGO is essentially useless. Maybe it should be BOGT (get two).

Eideteker, I disagree. The phrase is only useless on the most narrow, literal interpretation possible. If you look at how the phrase is actually used, the "get" in BOGO means essentially "obtain for free" or "receive as a gift."

Now, a more pressing question is why on earth am I allowing my Sunday morning to be dominated by so much discussion and reading up on BOGO and related things? This state of affairs can be neither normal nor healthy. To me, this is strong evidence that this very thread is bogosity potential field.

I'm still trying to promote use of the acronym UGOTO "Uncanny Grasp Of The Obvious" (originally uttered by Howard Cosell to refer to the sportscasting abilities of O.J. Simpson).
