Puppy update #2: The Exhaustening. So... The first days that my husband has been home with mr. puppy here were yesterday and today. Yesterday doesn't count, [More:] because he was recovering from a Friday night (actually, Saturday morning, since he's been working nights) after-work party [husband, that is.].

So he spent yesterday on the couch. But today we took mr. puppy on a long, long walk, to the Plaka for lunch, and back, with some stops along the way. I think we covered at least five or six miles, and mr. puppy's legs are very short! And the stimulation was very great! But he is such a killer-perfect baby canine paragon wonder. I can't believe how well he "heels" or whatever it's called, and how calm(ish) and patient is he with everything. He's an angel!

And now, wonderfully and utterly exhausted.

I suspect he won't even mind when I leave him alone for a couple of hours tomorrow to go give the monies to the various peoples, such as our landlady, and the small gods who keep our phone and internet going.

Okay, Taz? First of all:

1. How old is Mr. Puppy?

Don't assume you checking out for a few hours to go billpaying is a safe bet. If the pup is eight - 12 weeks old, he's still in major "where's Mommy?" mode and will cause havoc looking for her/you in your absence.

Trust me on this - creating a separation anxiety situation with a new dog will make your life a living hell later.

My advice? Take him with if you can. Good socializing opportunity, and excellent training time. The more exposure he has to others, the better your life with Mr. Puppy will become in the weeks ahead.

2. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't name him anything other than Mr. Puppy. That's the best dog name ever.

3. What kind of puppy is he? Did you go the purebred route, or the save-a-good-boy route and go mutt?

I can help with your training from afar if you tell me more about Mr. Puppy. :)

LT!

He's like six or seven months ... and, sadly, he's only ours for a couple of weeks. We're puppysitting! And, of course, we're in love. IN LOVE.

And I would take him with me tomorrow, but the distance I have to cover is too much for mr. puppy-legs, I think.

We want to have a time-share thing with his owner, our dear friend - whenever she's working a demanding job, she should let us have him for that week, or two weeks, or month, or whatever. :)!

His name is really Branco. But I found myself calling him "Puddin", which automatically disqualifies me from any naming power whatsoever.

Glad to hear things are going well, taz. How's the barking? Has he calmed down a bit yet?
