11 April 2008

three point update, y'all. [More:]
1. I have a headache.
2. I really really need to spring clean. BUT see #1.
3. I just found out officially...Dubya, yes, THAT Dubya is speaking at my son's graduation. Which I was nervous enough about before. So many details, not to mention my hubby's stepdad in Denver is gravely ill with a brain tumor. It would be nice if someone in my family could graduate from something without something upsetting going on at exactly the same time...(When I graduated from my worship school thingee I had just found out about my daughter's oopsie. Thankfully THAT turned out wonderfully in the end.)

Sorry for the rant. Graduation is wonderful. My son is awesome. I'm glad he gets a president-this makes up for him not getting in the first year he applied. So that's cool.

Dealing with my poor mother-in-law probably losing her spouse sooner rather than later? CAN'T WE PUT THIS OFF FOR A YEAR OR TWO OR TWENTY????????
aaand i FORGOT THE MORE INSIDE BUTTON FOR THE TRIFECTA. Mods, hope me?????

1. reminded once again that deadlines don't mean squat to the folks I work with
2. beautiful, sunny, warm day outside
3. I do believe that all adds up to me bagging it for the day, sitting in the backyard sipping a beer and playing guitar
posted by mrmoonpie 11 April | 12:07
1. Got new nightguard and happy pills.
2. Not in it at work.
3. Will have overnight teenage house guest tonight. Must make sure rugs are pulled over pentagrams on floor, get pizza and soda, aaaand note to self - wear pyjamas. Freaking a little bit.

1. Off to my psoriasis appointment -- I get "narrow band" UV light in these weird Star Trek capsules at UCSF. I feel as though I should be transported somewhere, but no, I'm still in SF.

2. Swamped with complicated and poorly functioning bureaucracies. Dealing with taxes (well, I'm filing an extension -- my taxes are really complicated due to foster kids); getting my 2008 parking zone sticker (and I can't find my bill -- dohhh! I might have to actually go into DPT on Howard Street); my complicated health insurance (calling to decipher 15 pages of paperwork, why isn't this going toward my deductible? oh, it's a mistake? oh, okay); the transitional housing system for foster kids (they're discriminating against my kid based on disability); the kidney donation system in Canada (my friend in Canada has kidney failure -- me and about six other people are trying to get tested for her -- it's soo complicated, US health insurance doesn't cover the cost of the testing, so then Canada is supposed to reimburse, but only if you do this very specific process, and maybe not even then); and that's not even counting my job in which I deal with bureaucracy professionally (as a lawyer).

3. I'm too tired after writing 2 to think of a 3.

awwww hugs, bunnyfire. Sorry to hear about your mister's stepdad. Dubya? hm. I'd be tempted to heckle him were I in your shoes but y'know that's why I don't bother doing 'normal-human' kind of stuff, hee.

BTW if you're ever in Denver visiting family, please get in touch and we can go grab coffee at St. Mark's or something.

1) busybusybusy
2) leaving work early YAY!!
3) to address emergency-expensive-bike-parts issues prior to tomorrow's race BOOOO!!!

1. Working from home
2. Grumpy because people are actually working and not playing scrabulous with me
3. About to make some lunch
posted by gaspode 11 April | 12:20
1. About to set up Scrabulous game with gaspode.
2. Looking forward to FFAF on ONTD tonight
3. Might hit the gym tonight... or might not. Probably not.
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 11 April | 12:27
1. Just sent gaspode a Scrabulous invite (hey pinky, wanna play? I only like the email one, though.)
2. Sunny today, for the first time pretty much all week. Will totally eat my lunch outside.
3. Two days off this weekend--first time in a little while. Happy.

1. Just had a picnic with 'Cinderella' on her front porch. I had a chicken salad burrito and honeydew melon. Cinderella had Ritz crackers and pears.
2. Off to try out a new gym, which is conveniently located close to home.
3. Since it is such a GORGEOUS day in central NC (the sky is Carolina blue once again), Cinderella's mom and me are gonna get a six pack and grill out. Our husbands can come if they feel like it.

1. Working from home today, quiet day.

2. It's still cold here. This afternoon we had a mini-hurricane and hailstorm, and I just managed to wrestle the bird table across to the fence where I laid it on its side before it crashed through the patio door. Fifteen minutes later the sun was shining.

3. I got my gas bill today. My hot water, stove top and heating are all gas. I know this latest bill was for the winter quarter and so the most expensive, but even so, it was huge. I pay by monthly direct debit, and they say they're raising it from £26 to £37 a month. Just for gas. Thank God it's the summer coming up (if we ever get one). In previous years the money I pay each month over the spring and summer go some way to offsetting the winter bills. But last year's surplus was all used up with the autumn bill.

1. Finished up a project-from-hell this morning that has had me at work 11+ hours every day this week. I am tired.

2. It's sorta nice out now, but supposed to storm all weekend and then get cold Monday. Lovely.

3. I just to the go-ahead to get outta here, so I'm heading home. See y'all!

1. Getting massage at 1:30

2. It always happens this way. . it's a MAJOR stressor to make this time in my day for a massage. . .there does not seem to ever be enough slack. It's self defeating.

3. There is this huge job board, with different sizes of little sticky notes. I put up a note, saying "a miracle happens here," and it was up for a week, before anyone noticed it.

1. Sleepy. Went out for a beer last night, ran into first one friend and then another and then another, so 1 beer turned into 4.5 beers, which is 1.5 too many for a work night.

2. Coworker with heart issues had one this morning so I had to suddenly teach a class of third graders. He is going to be okay - he's at the hospital, EKG looked okay, they're keeping him for a while for observation - but it was very scary.

3. It's been in the seventies and totally beautiful for several days but now it's going to storm and be cold and rainy all weekend which SUCKS since a) bf is going to be here and he gets antsy stuck in during rain and b) I'm supposed to go to a Flickr thing tomorrow at noon at the park and c) my friend is having a party tomorrow night which was supposed to be outdoors and d) my daughter is moving tomorrow and I almost certainly have to go help her move and e) if I don't mow my lawn soon either my neighbors are going to lynch me or the grass is going to rise up and swallow my house.
posted by mygothlaundry 11 April | 12:59
mgl, my lawn is in about the same shape. I keep trying to talk my neighbors into putting their humongous pet tortoise over the fence. He LOOVES grass and he'd be in hog heaven.

(His name is Sidney. He's big. REAL big. Getting bigger.)

1) Snow flurries this morning in-between the rain and the rain, but at least it didn't stick.
2) Napped at lunch because I don't feel well but have a meeting at 2 I should go to.
3) The meeting is still at 2, I still don't feel all that great, but I'm going. Yay me.

1. Can't find any interesting jobs, and the no one's calling me back from the uninteresting ones I've applied for. I'm bummed, and I know I'm hard to be around right now. Feel sorry for the gf. :(
2. Weather is very nice. Supposed to be 85 tomorrow. Will be doing gardening/yardwork. It might finally be time for the tomatoes to be planted.
3. Um.... The mind goes blank.

1. My baby's head is so big, he looks photoshopped. Seriously. Every now and then I turn to my husband and say, "That is the worst photoshop job I have ever seen. Putting an adult-sized head on a toddler's body is just creepy."
2. My daughter is so skinny you can see her ribs and hips. She wears a belt with slim cut jeans. She's a willow, a reed. Yet, the school sent home a note saying they had tested her BMI and she is borderline overweight. THAT IS F-ING NUTS!!!!!!! IF SHE WEIGHED ANY LESS, SHE'D BE SICKLY!!! (Although she, too, has a Nancy Reagan head. Her meaty noggin might be throwing off the score.)
3. Hot date tonight! Dinner and mattress shopping. We're finally getting a King. So very luxurious.

1) I'm sunburned on part of one shoulder.
2) When I put the sunscreen on I had one of those olfactory memory flashbacks. I love the smell of sunscreen.
3) When I squat down recently for any amount of time (gardening, for example), I've been having a sciatic nerve pinch and firey hell up and down my right leg.

1) finishing up first week at new job. nice coworkers, easy work, and it's ok to be on meta* when there's nothing to do.

2) my benefits kick in at the beginning of may, which means i can get back on my meds, have a new leg brace fitted (you're supposed to replace them yearly, i believe; i've had this one since '02), and - FINALLY - get dentures, so i look less like a scary drifter.

3) it's beautiful here in chicago and i may drag the projector outside for movie night!

also, feel free to add me on facebook. name and location in my mefi profile.

1. did, indeed, come home, an hour or so after I made the post above
2. did, indeed, drink a beer, and ate a peanut-butter-and-banana sandwich
3. did, indeed, play guitar, learning "Here Comes the Sun," which will, I predict, put the MrsMoonPie in tears when I play it for her on our anniversary Monday

So, yeah, this weekend's getting off to a damned good start.

1. I have some client work worth a couple of thousand dollars.
1a. There's a tiny chance it could lead to a partnership in a web venture.

2. Finally got my mom to watch all of Lord of the Rings (Extended Edition) with me. Between my nephew and myself she kept seeing little bits and pieces and understood none of it. She was neither enthralled nor bored. She also didn't understand that Boromir was Sharpe until about the third time I pointed it out.

3. My dad thought that the Shell "discount" stuff that came with his bill was a prize, and that the free return address labels his insurance agent sent out were a sweepstakes. My mother and I are discussing power of attorney, especially medical power of attorney, and it's so tricky. It's easier to do when he's lucid, because we won't have to go to court, but if he's lucid he'll resist.

1. I'm at work until 7.
2. I ate nine pieces of Werther's Original candy today. I am so weak.
3. I am about to get on the treadmill. I would have to walk well over an hour at a fast clip to burn off those Werther's.

My kids have huge heads too, jrossi. Eldest kid is at the 100 percentile, younger kid is over the 100 percentile. They get it from their big-headed father.

1. Made it through the week. What a long week. One more and I get a week off. Yay!
2. Ate Cheetos and chocolate cupcakes for dinner. My fingers are orange.
3. The Miss USA pageant's on tonight. Sadly, I must watch. (Can't help myself.)

Let's hear it for the Bronx.

Bunnyfire, I'm sorry to hear about your step-father-in-law's health. I don't know what to say after that. Except wishing him no pain.

1. Nice day, was supposed to rain but it's been beautiful. Hubby called me in a flirtatious way at work; I got warm and fuzzy feelings inside.

2. Picked up pizzas for dinner. I just don't want to cook.

3. Stepson got in trouble with his track coach. Stepson has a hard head and can be a real jerk. I felt bad for the coach.

1. Sanded all day. Same again tomorrow. I will be dealing with drywall dust up my nose, in my ears, and in my hair for a week. (Can I mention that this blizzard of mud dust is not unrelated to the nightmare that is wallpaper? No? Okay, never mind.)

2. Decided to stop at the mailbox instead of going straight home. Walking down the road afterward, a truck I vaguely recognized stopped, honked, and opened the door. It was the truck that belonged to a friend in the city (who is now in England, hence the confusion), which now belongs to another good friend, who is on the island for the weekend! Wheee! We're getting together tomorrow night, as yet another friend is playing at the local bar.

3. Dinner party I was to host (but not cook) on Sunday has been cancelled by the chef. This is a huge relief, as I wasn't that into it and now anticipate feeling like ass on Sunday (see 2).

1. Root canal yesterday. It didn't hurt anywhere near as much as I'd thought, probably because the dentist had removed the nerves of the tooth last week.

2. Go to the dentist! I didn't go for ten years, and so in the last few weeks I've had to go NINE TIMES, been on two courses of antibiotics and had to get a root canal even though I'm pretty strict about teeth-cleaning and didn't even have any fillings prior to finally getting off my arse and going. Honestly - go!

3. Thinking about going to see Bjork next week, who I've not seen live before.

bunnyfire - Geoffrey Rush was the speaker at my first graduation. He's an alum (BA drama) of my uni, our valedictorian was a drama major and Rush had recently won the Oscar for Shine and it was all just perfect and quite lucky really (he only spoke at the A-L ceremony). I've graduated without attending the ceremonies since. My best wishes to your son, and to your step-father-in-law.
