Some kudos for TheDonF. [More:]
As you may (or may not) know, English bunny TheDonF is running the London Marathon tomorrow. I'm not sure if a bunny (or sugar glider) costume is involved, but I do know he's worked incredibly hard to prepare for this race.

And he's raising lots of money for charity.

So let's hear it for TheDonF. w00t!
Go Don!!!

SPECKLET: But wait, my love, wait! Our future beckons like a glorious rose upon the heath!

THEDONF: (out of breath) Maybe I can catch the 12:15 Express to Twickenham after I break the tape! *looks back worriedly*

Hell, I was already cheering for the Masai who are running in full tribal gear with tires for shoes on their feet! Adding theDonF to the list is cake! Go theDonF!

Woohoo!
(I have the deepest respect for those of you who run. Could just never get into it...Low discomfort tolerance.)

My office is along the route. There's nobody there on Sundays but in previous years, an email has gone round the office on, usually, the Tuesday of the next week telling us that this guy is passing by, so we all go out and cheer him, and give money to the charity collectors accompanying him. It usually takes him about five days to complete the 26 miles.

A couple of years ago two friends of mine, both in their twenties, entered the marathon. They said that the worst bit wasn't when all the people in wacky costumes ran past them, or when all the wheelchair races whizzed by. The worst moment, they said, was then this man overtook them. And they couldn't catch him up.

Wow, TheDonF, I'm impressed. I remembered some mentions of your training, but didn't realize the marathon was this weekend. I don't even run when someone's chasing me.

Go, man, go!

Break a leg!

Is that appropriate for someone running a marathon? ;-)

MegaMegaKudos from me TheDonF. I never run for anything these days and am impressed at the mere though of it.

I watched Run Fatboy Run last night and all I can say is that I hope your marathon experience isn't anywhere near as horrible as Simon Pegg's character's was.

Woooooo!

Oh golly. My Run, F, Run comment was a twist on Forrest Gump with TheDonF's name. It wasn't meant to be Fatboy, if that wasn't clear.

How was that movie, jtron?

Heeeeee! Aww, thanks guys. So, yes, tomorrow is getting up at 6am to get the train to London and join over 40,000 other people to slog it out across London. I think it's going to be okay and I'm really looking forward to running over tower bridge.

I've got to admit, I'm quite surprised at how I've gone from just being able to run a half marathon to being able to run 23 miles in about 3 months - I'm capable of more than I thought I was. And, on top of that, I've raised nearly £1500 for charity, which is cool.

I have my stuff all packed and ready (bin liner in case of rain, vaseline for protection of the sensitive bits, toilet roll (none provided, apparently), change of clothes, time chip, running number). A colleague wants me to stop at the halfway point and sing the chorus of Living On A Prayer, but I think I'll give that a miss!

Right now, though, I'm going to have one last meal of lovely, lovely pasta, have a hot date with the girl and grab an early night.

Thanks so much for the best wishes. You bunnies rock!

rainbaby: like two movies squished together. One of the movies is a terribly formulaic romantic "comedy" containing people who don't behave at all like people in the real world, the other is an anarchic romp like you would expect from Simon Pegg, Dylan Moran, and Michael Ian Black, who wrote the script with Pegg. Terribly paced, with plenty of groanworthy situations and plot developments you can see coming a mile away; however, there are some interesting directorial choices, it's shot quite nicely, and if you like the leads and can see it for free or cheap then go for it. Hank Azaria and the little kid are both real good, Thandie Newton isn't really given anything to do, and there are some nifty cameos.

Wasn't RFR directed by David Schwimmer (aka Ross from Friends)?

Wow! Impressive! Good luck and all that, though you don't seem to need it.

...um....just realised that I've never had to run all those miles in bright but cool weather, maybe it's torture?? Certainly sitting on my balcony with a cold glass of Pinot Grigio, the weather is glorious here, but YMMV. Who knows.
Hope the weather suits!

4 hours 53? I SUCK at marathons! That was not meant to happen - I was meant to get between 4 and 4.5 hours. Damn. Oh well, at least I finished. And above Kate Lawler, to boot!
