Placenta drink for beauty. Now with less placenta stench![More:] What the hell, Japan?
I would just rather get old and ugly, thanks.

OK, so that's pig placenta, but I got a good line on rat placenta if anyone's interested...

No? Huh, how about that.

Some of the earthmonkey women here actually cook and eat the placentas that come out of their bodies after the birthing experience.

We just planted ours under the carrot bed.

I know some of the hippies in my hometown eat theirs. That's still gross.

I had a friend who was invited to partake of the placenta eating. He said they fried it with onions and that it was so good he went back for seconds.

Personally, I wouldn't eat it, but I don't really think it's any grosser than eating part of a cow.

Yeah, see, for me the eating of the placenta of your kid is weird mainly because it's the same genetic material as the kid. Which just freaks me out.

What the hell, Japan?

Ya know, that's probably not the freakiest consumer product to have come out of Japan.

Except you're eating a part of yourself and your baby. Or your wife and baby. Just waaay too close to cannibalism for me.

It's supposed to have tons of protein and nutrients that help the mother gain back her energy. I don't know, I might do it when/if the time comes. Even as a vegetarian.
I think it's closer to eating your boogers than it is to cannibalism.

Then again, I don't eat my boogers. (anymore)

I was basically vegetarian for 27 or 28 years, which might help explain where I'm coming from... I think the gross-out factor of this has more to do with the social taboo of cannibalism than it does with the fact that it's just a hunk of vitamin-rich meat.

Not sayin' I would eat it, though.

I think I'll take mine and plant a tree over it or something.

If I were a woman, I'd eat my own placenta given the chance. I mean, what a great icebreaker at parties that would be.

Unfortunately, there is no video online of the related "Green Wing" scene.

I am remembering, but can't find, a blog post of a guy preparing and eating his baby's placenta. He had kept it in the freezer for a while. There were photos. Of the whole process. Of the bloody, slimy mess. It was horrifying, but I couldn't click away.

I didn't even kiss my newborn babies until they'd been properly de-gooped.
