24 April 2008

Today while emptying a box of books, I found an 8-track of 'Liberace's Greatest Hits.' One of the tracks was 'Born Free.' It now occupies a place of honor atop our bedroom TV. I also found a small plastic statue of a Saint. We put that on top of the computer terminal. I figure we need all the help we can get.
Good sir, I shall prepare a beverage in honor of this occasion. I even have a paper umbrella to go in it.

That 8 track is pure hilarity.

and now that it's been sitting on the tv, probably quite useless.

Liberace was the first concert I ever saw. I was six or so. At an outdoor venue in the middle of July - he wore a full length fur for most of the show. I remember that being the first time that I was really hyper aware that sometimes men just love other men and that women love other women and that it was all okay.

I actually have pretty fond memories of that show and how over-the-top it was and that I felt like it was BIG DEAL that mom was taking me to that concert (part of a summer series that she got tickets to every summer until they closed that venue) and not taking someone else. I even remember what I wore. A yellow gingham dress sundress.

"...as free as the wind blows... as free as the grass grows..." Heh. I loved that movie when I was a kid. Quite a treasure you found.

Liberace was a fantastic pianist, too bad most people in the general public don't see beyond the crazy antics and supergay costumes, but he played the piano like a motherfucker. American Legend, 100 percent

I'm fresh out of Liberace stories, but I'll add this about plastic saints, etc.

Years ago I lived in a house close to a Jersey bay. After storms, things would occasionally wash up on the beach. While walking after such a storm, I came across a plastic Jesus in a plastic dome. I brought him home - I couldn't just leave Jesus on the beach. Plus, I figured, like jonmc, I could use all the help I could get.

Kitten Cuteness || Guess you shouldn't always bet on black, after all.
