World's Worst LOL Weld ...but it holds water and the photos are nice. For BitterOldPunk and the MeChites who gave me advice and any DIYers who might get a little chuckle. →[More:]

Usually I can just touch the solder to the top of the hot pipe and the bead runs perfectly down the seam ("capillary action"!) A minute's work.

I have no idea why this one was so tough, other than it was in a cramped space above my head. The solder just kept vaporizing. I turned the flame way low and dabbed the solder till some huge messy globs finally stuck.

At work, and if it was a weld, we'd call that a "gorilla weld", I guess that could be a gorilla solder joint. Hey if it works it works. I had one solder joint when I redid the plumbing in my house that gave me fits, but it's held up for 4 years now. I don't know why I had problems with it either, it was all new pipe...

It might have something to do with new pipe, now you mention it, eek. I bet they use some chemicals or lubricants or something in the manufacturing process. My uncle suggested I scrub the copper down with an emory cloth, which I did, though it did little good. "Gorilla weld," LOL. Yeah, it's not a weld, but I needed a 'W' for alliteration ;-)

Soldering is like landing a airplane. Any landing you can walk away from is a good one. And joint that does not leak is a good one.
