Morgan Spurlock ...is awesome.→[More:] That is all.
Well, I saw him speak at the college last night. He's terribly entertaining and at the same time pretty down-to-earth. His basic message was that following his dreams was hard work, but well worth it.
He has a TV show here in the States on the FX channel, "30 Days", where he documents someone trying a slice of life they don't understand for 30 days. I use the episode where he and his then-fiancee (now wife) Alexandra live on minimum wage for 30 days to show students the stressors of poverty. (And two people on minimum wage is barely above the poverty line). They moved to Columbus, OH with pretty much nothing but $200 and took jobs that were the typical jobs you get for minimum wage. It's an eye-opener for the students.
I got to chat with him for a little bit afterward. It was cool.
I wouldn't say that, matteo. He has a series on FX called "30 Days" which is in its 3rd or 4th year of production. It's a pretty provocative series about people living in situations outside of their comfort zone -- one, for example, has a military homophobic guy living in the Castro with a gay roommate. The two notable things about it are:
1) There's a lot more empathy to the show than might be expected. Spurlock seems to have an empathetic touch even when he's lambasting McD's.
2) No scripted happy endings. Some people's point of view change, others do not, as the result of the 30 days.
Only one person has failed to finish their 30 days -- and that was for medical reasons. The guy who started steroids for bodybuilding quit after 21 days because his sperm count dropped to zero as a result.
