13 April 2008

Synchronicity is a wonderful thing! On Friday we had tornado watch weather complete with strong gusting winds. It twisted up the old (30 or 40 years?) television aerial that sat atop the 60 foot tower at the side of the house. [More:]I've been putting of the job of going up there and removing the aerial and it's motor for years but now it had to be done. I also thought I might call around and see how much it would cost to get the whole tower taken away as it had served no purpose for a long time.

Saturday morning my doorbell rang and a young man asked if I wanted to get rid of the tower.

This morning he and his friends showed up at 9 AM and I am minus one big pain in the ass and a young ham operator has a nice new tower for free.
There is a big antenna out here that I need to take down one of these days. The thing is about twenty feet above the top of the roof and will be a huge pain just to disassemble (the tower part of it is in sections bolted together) or I would have done it ages ago. It interferes with my cable signal so some channels are always fuzzy which is irritating. Kinda wish it would just fall down or something.

Just finished buying a new cable modem and video card thanks to lightning. Being without a working computer for a couple of weeks was almost enough to drive me the rest of the way to insanity.

Run an ad in the local paper and see if someone wants to take it off your hands.

You had a 40-year-old, 60-foot antenna tower sitting by your house??

There's something sort of surreal and beautiful about this.

Early 20's Triode. He just bought his first home and is leaving his old tower for his dad who has taken up the hobby.

Yeah Doohickie and BP the whole thing has been kinda weird and beautiful. A lot like when we decided Kitty could move in and we made a vet appointment. We were out for a walk and I told Rosemary we needed to pick up a cat carrier the next day in order to ferry Kitty back and forth.

Just then, a few houses up the ally, a woman put out a garbage can with a perfectly functional cat carrier on top.
