I have been getting some hard looks today as I wear my Baltimore Orioles cap deep in the heart of Yankee territory (I work in the Bronx). On the other hand, it guarantees that the service staff and security guards at my work know who I am, and chat with me about baseball, which is always a good thing. Yeah, Opening Day! unless you count the Red Sox-Oakland games, or are an Atlanta or Washington fan, of course

*Bump*. Richard Price will be doing a reading and signing at the Union Square Barnes & Noble at 7pm on April 3rd. This is especially good in my case, since yesterday while bringing my computer home, I left my backpack in a cab with my previously inscribed Price book in it. Some cabbie is prolly on eBay starting a bidding war. But all NYC MeChaZen's are urged to attend. They can meet me at the store at 6:30 that night.
I am just so upset I just started my new job, and it's fine. The people are great, and I think I will be successful, although my training is going too slowly ( I did mention this). But it's just not my old job, which I loved and lost in Jan. I miss the people, I miss the office, I miss the work, I even miss the doorman. I walked by the old office and cried. For chrissakes. It was just a job.
I just had a very good interview. At least, I think it was a very good interview. It's weird being interviewed by therapists. They're all radiating compassion and understanding and you're all, "Um, do you actually like me, or is this all just transference?"
unexpected thanks I would like to thank the newspaper with a strongly opposing view that nevertheless got my quote right and quoted me in my entirety.
dancing on the ceiling... oh what a feeling I don't actually want to dance on my ceiling. I want to repair it. I have an old (can't be less than say, 30 years) stuccoed living/dining room ceiling that has three or four long cracks in it and cool but equally old mouldings around the two light fixture wires. To preserve these mouldings I have to preserve the existing ceiling, so I need to repair the cracks, and then paint the entire ceiling. Is this possible? And if so, how would I go about doing the repairs and painting? I'm worried that the repairs will be obvious and that painting the ceiling will bring down a plaster rain.

What are you doing this Sunday? My wife, son and I had lunch at this touristy place ('Patio Bellavista', Santiago, for those in the know) then went to see a friend who had a booth at an indie clothes fair in an old warehouse then went to see my wife's grandmother so she could hang out with her grandson. We're home now, the wife's preparing a class for tomorrow, so my son and I are listening to the White Album.
What are you doing?

Do other people get a creeping sense of dread whenever actors who played evil nasties on The X-Files or Buffy show up on other shows? What makes it worse is that I normally can't identify why I'm getting totally creeped out until about halfway through whatever new show they're in, and by that point I already feel like my skin is trying to crawl off and hide in a closet and I can't stop glancing nervously over my shoulder and OMG CREEPED OUT.

So my grandmother died yesterday and I have to give someone a little snapshot Two years ago, at the age of 92, while visiting her older sister in Wisconsin, she faints and is hospitalized. They figure out that she is bleeding internally and so do major surgery, removing her spleen and colon. I'm sure there was a pool among the nurses on how long she would croak - on the table or how shortly afterwards. I'm standing in her ICU room the next morning and the nurse comes in and says "How do you feel, Vera?" And with closed eyes my grandmother says: "Normally with my hands."

That was my grandmother.
