12 March 2008

This is a venting thread. [More:] I don't feel like shouting, and nor do I feel like whining, even though I probably have all the reason to. My payday is usually on the 4th or 5th, but I still haven't been paid for last month's work. Yesterday, I finally got fed up of waiting, so I emailed my, err, boss. He replied: "Sorry, we forgot". Wtf?

I've taken a few month's break from work to hopefully finish my thesis, but I'm not so sure if I want to work with these people at all anymore.
I'm crabby, too, blah blah blah.

Baby woke up at 4 am. Baby soaked in pee. Baby cried. Baby would. Not. Go. Back to sleep. Daddy and Mommy grow new grey hairs.

Daddy smash. Daddy coffee. Coffee goooooood.

Our irritating landlady is taking advantage of us in major, major ways. We were without water yesterday for 8 hours, and expect the same today.

This damn house we rented for an obscene amount of money will have been under construction for 1/6th of the time we've lived here, and none of it is to our advantage. None of it seems to involve work permits either, but maybe I've just not seen them. Don't they have to be posted on the door?

I want to call the state so badly or a lawyer, but I've been asked to put up with it until April 1. I'm documenting everything and taking pictures each night.

April 2nd, you better believe, my patience ends. I hate to sour our living arrangements, but WTF.

We would never treat our tenants this way, we waited to refinish the hard wood floors on our Madison place until the tenant was going to be on vacation anyway. GRRRRRRRRR.

The added bit of fun is that the stress from being angry about this has caused my insomnia to kick in and I am now averaging 1 night's sleep every few days.

O, and glad you eventually got paid, Daniel Charms. Seems like working somewhere else eventually might not be a bad idea - employers who forget to pay you are probably not good places to work.

I feel like I'm pretty much useless at work, which is quite worrisome, considering the fact that I have my 90 day review on the 26th.

:-/ My boss has given me no reason to worry, but that doesn't stop my head from doing it. This is the best job I've ever had. I can't afford to fuck it up.

a few months ago, I found out that the grant money would run out for my salary at the end of March. My boss said she would apply to the dept. for an extension adn not to worry about it until she found out. SHE STILL HASN'T FOUND OUT. Now, because of our institution's rules about giving notice, I won't be leaving at the end of March (mid-April earliest) but it would be nice to FUCKING WELL KNOW IF I HAVE A POSITION OR NOT so I can look for another source of income for a few months (and won't that be a pain in the butt, looking for something temp until July/August). NOT TO MENTION health insurance and what a clusterfuck that might turn into.

AARRRGHHHHHH

OK so that was more shouty than venty. Even so.

Goshdangit, I have to play Bunco tonight! The month goes by so quickly. I was so looking forward to doing nothing tonight. Bunco is a game where you throw three dice and yelp and scream with delight if you roll a good hand. All hell breaks loose if you actually throw a Bunco and then you are forced to wear a pair of fuzzy dice around your neck, signifying your Bunco Queen status. If the dice are stolen because another woman rolled a Bunco there is boisterous laughter and hollering. At the end of the night there is more yelping if you happen to win a prize, which usually consists of a scented candle or a pack of wine charms. I'm actually starting to like it. Don't tell anybody.

Nothing to really vent about except this feeling like I just need spring break, is all. It's 50 degrees out right now, so it looks like there's the spring part -- just not the BREAK part for a couple weeks.

I love that there are still things going on in life that I had no idea existed.

I'm having a very mopey, no willpower day. I woke up late, had no time to take a shower before going to history so I didn't go. I slept until 12, which furthered the mopeyness of the day. I've got a photo class at 2, and the photos I took for it came out crappy in both composition and exposure, and the girl in charge of the darkroom that night wanted to close up 15 minutes earlier than the posted time so I was unable to print the final two prints, so my set is incomplete and I won't be showing it in class today.

I also have a paper due tomorrow which I haven't started yet. All in all, today is not a very good day, and could use some improvement. I think I'll send off an email to my photo professor, take a shower, and start working on that paper.

Toodle gal had wintersickness, I quarantined her like a good mom should. She was a trooper, though it got boring because guess what, freelance mom still has to work even if it is with needy poor sickly girl in lap. Send her back to kindergarden when she'd done the 5 days sick + days days freeing herself from carrying it, she comes home with the chicken pox. I quarantine her and she's really really really bored now. So I take her out dancing - Bollywood dance class, where other moms and toddlers dance - last night after spending 9 days couped up inside. Guess what? She's attacked by a bug and now does her best Linda Blair impression.

To all ye parents who don't quarantine your kids, you suck. Truly. It's not just bad for other kids but yours too, if they have a virus they'll not be able to handle bugs so well, and vice verca.

Naturally, I still have work to do so I can't sleep. Not as in don't want to, but as In don't have time to.

are you me?

Given my sleep-deprived hallucinatory fog, I am prepared to believe I am Huckleberry Hound.

I've gotten to be a lightweight, evidently -- the first three months were far worse than that, and I don't know how I got through them.
