Hayfever question. [More:]

I'm having pretty bad tree pollen allergies again this year, but unlike last year, my tummy is upset.

I thought it was coincidental that when I started itching and sneezing, my stomach acted up, but I've noticed on the days that my allergies are bad, I feel nauseous and have no appetite.

My mom seems to think that a post-nasal drip could be the culprit, but my nose is seldom runny, just (diabolically) itchy.

Could I have a post-nasal drip and not even feel it at all? Could that be what's making my tummy so sad?
I'm afraid so. I had a problem similar to yours last year, which happily hasn't shown up yet this year. Go see your doctor - you'll probably get a prescription for something like Flonase (which I had a really bad reaction to) or Rhinocort (which actually worked as advertised).

I often (with no evidence) figure that if my sinuses are screwy, it may be affecting my inner ear and thus my balance, and as I get motion sickness fairly easily, I figure that's where the nausea is coming from.

I have no idea if that explanation holds water, but the fact that I've thought it out does at least indicate that you're not alone! :-)

I'd have to second occhiblu. I've had sinus/inner ear allergy issues too, that casued minor nausea. The ear and sinus symptoms where very minor but still had a big impact.

I am woefully familiar with the middle/inner ear ailments, and my ears have definitely been affected by my allergies, but this stomach thing is a different kind of upset and nausea.

I react so horribly to prescription medications that I probably won't go that route. I'll just keep on with my herbal crap and pop pepto-bismol pills.

I just have my doubts about it being a post-nasal drip upsetting my stomach, since my throat isn't sore and I don't seem to be that snotty...

Regardless, I am in itchy, bitchy, sneezy hell, and I resent it. All these trees having sex, right out in the open, getting their pollen up my nose! Maybe that's really my problem: the trees are happily reproducing and I don't have a snowball's chance of getting any action any time soon.

I've never had a problem with tree pollen till this year.

In fact, I've never had any kind of allergy problem till this year. So it's all new and unfamiliar and I'm being a very bad sport about it. It's so unfair. I like trees.

Ah, tree jizz. I hate that fucking shit.

Could it be that the pollen is tying up your immune system, wasting resources that'd ordinarily take care of a common stomach bug?

I don't think it's a stomach bug...

I think I'm just a wimpy allergy-ridden whiner.

*sigh*
