MeCha fantasy baseball. I have questions.[More:]

I'm so confused. Never done fantasy baseball before.

1. First off, when does the season start?

2. Where can I find information on scoring? I thought it was under Settings, but it ain't.

3. My team: Does it work like fantasy football, where you have a single lineup for a single week? Or do you rotate players in and out over the course of the week? And if it's the former, do you have to be cognizant of which pitchers are going to be playing that week? (And if so, where do you find that info?)

4. I did the auto-pick draft thing. Now, where can I go to get good information on the players I ended up with? (Bonus points for an explanation of the stats. I'm not up to speed with them yet.)

5. This all seems so hopelessly complicated. Football is much easier.

6. I will have more questions. Please bear with me.

7. Thank you.
My name is gaspode and I approve this post.

(I'm totally confused as well, and these are all questions I have.)

1. The season starts next week wednesday.

2. I'll get back to you on this one.

3. I'm pretty sure you can switch players on any given day (like in basketball, if you've ever done that), With the pitchers, I think switching them isn't as important because you have several active pitcher spots (someone feel free to correct me on this).

4. Click on the player's name should take you to their page on yahoo, which is usually pretty good. I'll try to explain the stats later

5. For me, it's a little easier to follow baseball, so I don't have to keep guessing like I would have in football.

6. I'll try to help if I can.

If it makes you feel better, Basketball is insanely complicated.

1. The season starts next week wednesday.

Actually, in my league at least, the Boston/Oakland game is officially on Tuesday (albeit at 5 in the morning). Just FYI.

2. Where can I find information on scoring? I thought it was under Settings, but it ain't.

Are you in a Yahoo league? It should be under Settings when you're at the League home page. There should be one for Scoring Type (either Head to Head, Rotisserie or Points) and then a setting for Stat Categories. The answer to question Three should be there too, under Weekly Deadline. Our league you can make daily changes and is reads "Daily - Tomorrow"

4. I did the auto-pick draft thing. Now, where can I go to get good information on the players I ended up with? (Bonus points for an explanation of the stats. I'm not up to speed with them yet.)

There are a few places, but an easy way to check is the Bigger Board, which will show you overall rankings and rankings by position. It's a decent starting point. Since you've already drafted, ignore the money values. Those are for people that have bidding drafts.

Which stats are you curious about? For the first couple of years I did fantasy baseball, WHIP always threw me off. It stands for Walks and Hits per Inning Pitched, and is basically the average number of baserunners that a pitcher is responsible for allowing per inning.

Sorry I can't be more specific right now, but as I'm not in the MeCha league, I can't see the settings.

Oh, also, I'll link this AskMe post in which I asked for recommendations on websites to help with Fantasy baseball. Only three people responded, and the vast majority of the sites listed are for very hardcore (or at least, more hardcore than I am) FBB nuts, but I thought I'd point to it.

Yes, Yahoo. The scoring info isn't on the settings page (or at least not on the one I'm looking at). It does say head-to-head, but it doesn't tell you, for example, how many points a home run is worth. That's the scoring info I'm looking for.

I favorited your AskMe when I saw it, but yeah, the links were a little over my head. What we need is Fantasy Baseball for Dummies. (Which you'd think would be a need Yahoo could readily fill. But it doesn't.)

Ah, okay, there's the kicker. With H2H football, the various stats are worth points. With Baseball (and Basketball), it's totals that determine them. So if, say, like me, you're in a 5x5 league (which is most common - 5 stats for batters (R, HR, RBI, Batting Average, and Stolen Bases) and 5 for pitchers (Wins, Strikeouts, Saves, ERA and the aforementioned WHIP). If you out-total your opponent in any of those categories (total, for the week) than you get 1, uh....can't quite think of the word I'm looking for. Point doesn't really do it.

Anyhow, for each week, your total "record" will be however you stack up vs. your opponent for that week, but it's not all or nothing like football. You'll wind up as something like 6-4 or 5-5, or often something weird like 4-4-2, with each being a category you either won, lost, or tied for the week.

Sorry if that seemed garbled or rushed. It's likely both. Just multi-tasking like a banshee at the moment.
