So very cute. The weird thing is that they're Australian natives but we're not permitted to keep them as pets. The only time I've ever handled one of these was when I found one on the side of the road and turned it in to the local wildlife centre for rehab and release. It irritates me no end that the rest of the world has these guys and we're not to be trusted with them, apparently.
(/jealousy)
So, what names are you considering? I'm giggling at Ethylene's "Butternuggets" and "Doodlebutt".
I couldn't possibly top any of ethylene's suggestions, but my vote goes for Doodlebutt. And, because in the face of such over-the-top cuteness I simply must: Squeeeeeeeee!
Since gliders are marsupials, their acutal pregnancy is very short - like 16 days. Then the babies are born and climb into the mom's pouches (she has two). They stay in there for two and a half to three months. Then they get big enough that they start poking feet or tails out of the pouch opening. Then they come out of the pouch but mostly stay in the little sleeping hut. Sometimes you see them hanging on to the mom or dad's back (like a koala baby) and then they start roaming the cage on their own when they're about the size of the one in my picture.
