13 March 2008

It is a Cretaceous morning. The fog is so thick I can barely see out the windows. The world is lush and green and dense. The birds are loud and insistent, calling out from places unseen. Mammals have not yet evolved into saber-tooth tigers and remain lap-sized and sleepily compliant. [More:]

What time period are you in, or wish you were in, today?
But the huge reptiles still around ARE warm-blooded and swift, so keep an eye out, OK?

I want to be in the Hyborian Age.

However I'm actually in the Permian, being devoured alive by a million petty little monsters.

This morning, definitely the Space Age. Going for more caffeine, BRB...

i apparently want to be 700 years into the future, because if this is what the future is really going to be like, it looks WAY cuter than anything i'm looking at today.

Yesterday I entered the classroom in the midst of spitting snow and slushy streets, and exited hours later into the Dutch Golden Age: winter sun angling down, lighting up the underbellies of the fat white clouds. The low light takes on a funny quality of a March afternoon --- In the distance, the windows of office and apartment buildings shine like bright nickels. The sun softens the bricks, fuzzying their harshness and reflecting back a rosy softness. I expect to see woman in crisp linen caps step briskly out to sweep the cobblestones.

1908-ish on Prince Edward Island.

Why, yes! I am rereading Anne of Green Gables. However did you guess?

PS: If you're debating reading Before Green Gables, please do read it. It was well done.

Ha! Yes, after I posted this, I stared out the window thinking, "But what would happen if dinosaurs appeared out back? They'd actually look quite nice and fitting, with the fog and the greenery.... wait, no, DINOSAURS. They'd scare the EVERLASTING HELL out of me. No dinosaurs."
