Nah! Just start a Flickr account and start having fun.
I've had Flickr for a couple years and only recently have been antsy for FlickrPro (the paid account). And that's only because I want more control over sets. Having unlimited sets would be awesome, because it's easier to group your photos - be it 6 photos or 60 photos - according to an event or theme, and then link to them so relevant people can see just the photos in that set, as a set. Right now, my photos are a stream and it's hard to set them apart from one another.
But you can go a looooong way on a free account. There are no reasons why you should NOT Flickr.
Just start uploading. When you transition to digital camera, there is an amazing change that happens. Photos are no longer at a premium: take as many as you want, at will. It costs nothing. Delete the bad ones. Keep taking shots until you get good ones. Take a thousand shots; it doesn't matter. Then, download them all, weed through and freely delete. Finally, open and edit shots that you think are worth sharing, and upload them.
The result is good. We all want to see your pics. Don't fret, just start.
