Easter Eggs by Mother Nature The first time I ever bought local-farm eggs I opened the box and was totally enchanted to find this.[More:] Hey! It's not industrial agriculture! All the chickens don't have to be the same! You can have brown, speckled, white, green, beige, buff, yellow, greenspeckled...

We put on a CSA Fair today and 150 people came. It's winter so local stuff is scarce, but hens are a-laying. I also scored fingerling potatoes and purple garlic. Quiche is about to come out of the oven....!
My hens just started laying again. Poor things. They're geriatric. Their eggs are the size of pullet eggs now.

At my farmers' market today, they had whole cartons of double-yolk eggs. I asked the woman how they know. She explained it (something about young chickens having regular cycles), but she had a heavy accent and I couldn't understand. Still a mystery, alas.

I get that chicken eggs are irregular. However, I always check my eggs before I purchase them to make sure they're not cracked. So did you just notice this when you go home? Or maybe you checked them at the market and brought them home 'cause they're pretty?

Oh! My boyfriend found a double-yolk egg this morning. I've never seen one before.

The carton of eggs is beautiful.

You know, I'm just not that organized. I don't check. Every now and then I get a cracked egg in my dozen. Oh well.

Aww, then the person who put them in the container did that on purpose. i was wondering if you did that for the picture.

So did the coloring of eggs for spring come from the coloring of eggs by nature, visa versa inverse converse subuniversed?

Different kindsa chickens lay different colors a eggs. This farm has a bunch of different chickens and they mix up the eggs for you.

The egg people at the farmers' market here kind of scare me. I bought eggs from them once, and they were wonderful, but the guy selling them to me would NOT stop making egg puns. One or two egg puns? Kinda cute. Six or seven or eight egg puns? Starting to verge on creepy weird.

He very definitely would have labeled that a Vari-egg-y pack. Which works better out loud, I admit.

Why else would you get into raising chickens, if not for the puns?

Nice! We will have our own hens soon, therefore our own fresh egg supply. Have to finish building the people house first, though, then the chicken house.
