31 March 2008

I have been getting some hard looks today as I wear my Baltimore Orioles cap deep in the heart of Yankee territory (I work in the Bronx). On the other hand, it guarantees that the service staff and security guards at my work know who I am, and chat with me about baseball, which is always a good thing. Yeah, Opening Day! unless you count the Red Sox-Oakland games, or are an Atlanta or Washington fan, of course
Hopefully it's not going to rain too much in Baltimore, unlike here where the Yankees game is postponed...

If only I didn't have work to do today. I'm following the Brewers by reading the comments on blogs.

We live so close to the Washington Nationals' old stadium that we got used to the sound of crowds in the distance, and we can now identify the sounds of approaching fighter jets from all the various flyoers. We figured that was all in the past, since the new stadium is now a couple of miles away. Nope. We knew the game was about to start when we heard the unmistakable sound of jets flying very low with full afterburners. I guess on the scale that such jets operate at, we're still pretty damned close to the stadium.

I'm not a huge fan, but it was fun to go to a couple of games a season, especially since I could walk from my house, buy a ticket, and get to my seat in 20 minutes flat. On the day of the last game at the old stadium, I walked down and bought a ticket, just for a souvenir; my brother's a big fan, and I knew he'd like it. I did enter the stadium, but only to get the free commemorative t-shirt. I left without watching even one pitch.

I tried really hard to get opening day tickets, again, mainly for the souvenir for my brother. I guess it's only right that the tickets went to folks who actually cared about watching the game. I guess.

Dodgers have a man on second, no outs in the first, against the hated Giants. . .YAY!!!!

I hear you. The Dodgers have not been great shakes, either.

Yay, baseball hats and yay baseball! One of my patients gave me a new Tampa Bay Rays hat the other day. That was so nice! We're going to see the Red Sox play in St. Petersburg. I've decided that two of us will be in Red Sox gear, the other two, in Rays garb, to be fair to our Floridian roots.

I was trying not to listen to the game because I'd get to into it/emotional about it. My job doesn't need me yelling "Fuck" or "Hell Yeah." Reading everything third hand is a bit more delayed and detached for me.
