Community treatment by laypeople for depression and anxiety NYT story about mental health clinics in idea. Strikes me as a potentially good idea for the US too.

I think this is kind of the system we have now, really, where master's level clinicians (licensed professional counselors, social workers, and marriage & family therapists) do the bulk of the work in treating anxiety and depression, and generally charge less than psychiatrists or doctorate-level psychologists.

But I think it's a little hard to tell, since they just converted the rupees into dollars without giving a sense of whether this program is paying more "volunteer level" or "professional level" salary.
