Travel Insurance? Any advice for picking up a short-term policy to cover a 16-day cruise followed by two weeks in Europe? TIA!
for my 7 day cruise in the carribbean, I used www.accessamerica.com.. It came to 26 bucks to cover me (don't know how much it'll cost for you). And after watching a few people having to be evacuated from the ship for medical reasons, travel insurance is all sorts of awesome.
I have no advice about any particular service, but before you buy, try to get a full understanding of what qualifies for coverage.
I spent a looooong time in correspondence and phone calls with my mother's travel insurance rep a few years ago, when she cancelled a trip because her husband (my father) died shortly before departure. The agent (adjuster?) maintained a blank, insistent failure to understand why her husband's death prevented her from traveling.
He came around eventually, but it took a lot of discussion about the terms of the coverage and a lot of patience.
I think it's a great idea. We got travel insurance for our 7 day all-inclusive trip to the Dominican Republic in June. It cost us $200.00 extra, but with things that are going on these days, it can't hurt. I just hope we won't need it.
DO get it.
I hunted around and found the one the airline was offering me was more expensive. Went with CAA [Canadian Automobile Association] which was cheaper.
Find out what it covers, exactly. Like cancellation due to illness, will they fly you home earlier in case hospitalization is necessary or does it stipulate you must stay and use available hospitals, etc...their website lists the specifics.
THAT's what you compare when deciding on the best deal.
Bon Voyage [ugh, cruises, I prefer the bare boat rental].
Travel insurance is an essential. For example, although a visitor to the UK would be able to receive emergency treatment in an NHS hospital, the hospital is under a duty to establish if that person is eligible for free care. A visitor from the USA would not be eligible, and so would be required to pay for treatment.
