ooooh, feeling minor earthquakes right now [More:]Just happened to be here when I felt some shaking, so I thought I'd mention it, er, "live."

Nothing major (yet, *keeps fingers crossed*), but quite a few waves of it.

Truth be told, I find these very small quakes oddly soothing. I'm sure that would change if I were ever in a significant one.

Oddest earthquake experience -- many years ago, I was, um, more than a little tipsy and looking at some great internet pr0n. Just when I reached the point of no return, the building started to rattle. Half of me felt it a warning, the other felt it a confirmation.
I actually miss earthquakes from when I lived in Northern CA. People think I'm crazy, and they're pretty much right.

We get a lot of them up here, and I love the bigger ones. The oddest one was during my pastor's closing prayer - it made most of the congregation laugh nervously.

I try to find our all too frequent small quakes soothing. I tell myself that they are releasing pressure, thereby reducing the chances of a big one happening along the same fault line. Or something. But, basically - Do Not Want. I was a in a big one.

Were you, Taz? My dad likes to talk about the Good Friday quake and watching the ground move like ocean waves.

We were in Cordova. I was really little, but apparently it's really stuck with me, as I tend to get very panicky at even a heavy truck rumbling by. Definite imprint.

My sister was born on the Easter Sunday two days later, and the hospital of course was filled with dead, dying, injured, and all the medical personnel were exhausted. My mom says that the room was full of doctors, nurses, workers coming to see the baby... new life, in the circumstances, being something to especially celebrate, I guess.

Oh man, I was almost in SF tonight. I still haven't really experienced an earthquake, and I want to. It isn't reported in the SF Chronicle yet, though. Treepour, are you still in SF?

I don't like them myself but I do get paranoid when we don't have any for a while.

mudpuppie, I am in SF -- I imagine it was too small to make the news. The USGS has a cool website that lists most quakes (though I don't see one listed for last night at first glance).

I've never felt more earthquakes than when I was lucky enough to live in Anchorage in the 90s. Most of them were mild, and few strong enough to be exciting. The most memorable was one that occurred when I was in the bathroom, reading. Sitting. And... That was the longest 25 seconds of my life.

I didn't know whether to shit or get off the pot.

It was over before I'd decided.

Here on Vancouver Island, I've only felt one or two, and have been oblivious to many, many more.

There's been quakes 2 nights in a row that we felt here in Tokyo. Night before last a quick, short SHARP jolt (the kind that wakes you up instantly, and the kind where the house makes a noise) in the middle of the night, then a longer, more rumbly one in the wee hours of the morning. Hmmm... I'm with gomichild, though: little ones at regular intervals seem better than having none for a long time. Then you start feeling like ol' mama Earth is saving up for the BIG one.

taz, I hadn't ever heard of the Good Friday Earthquake. It's stunning that more people weren't killed and that people were killed all the way down to California due to the tsunami it triggered.
