I am having a really fun time making campaign calls- reading the script (actually I like to deviate from the script and personalize things), talking to cute old ladies. I'm part of the process! I'm doing my part! I'm an American! ::bursts with pride and love for my country and democracy and the American flag as fireworks shoot out my ears::

So what's making you happy today?

I feel better now than I did this morning. Which, given that I was having a very bad morning, is a very big improvement. Progress is good.

Where are my manners? I forget that some of you may yet be unacquainted with the pure idiot bliss that is the Joe "King" Carrasco & The Crowns experience. How rude of me! Here ya go - "Caca de Vaca". The album has been out of print for years, but if anybody's interested I can put up a link to the place I found it today.

Back load of Buffy comics and the first frivolous purchases in ages. Just tiny Easter cookie cutters and colored markers, etc. but fun when you never get cheap nail polish with questionable names (Pearl Harbor? Really? But it's sparkly--)
Also, making a mess while making stuff and little kitty feet.

Ah, I used to see Joe King Carrasco on 6th Street in Austin. Fun times.

Today was decent. I did some weeding, planted some onions and garlic, and I've been sitting on the back porch reading the New Yorker. The BEST part of it, though, is that I've trained one of my backyard scrub jays to take peanuts from the palm of my hand again, which is just totally fucking cool. I hold a peanut out, it swoops down and grabs it, then makes a happy squawk. (Or maybe a territorial one. Which is probably more likely.) Anyway, it makes me simultaneously feel like I'm at one with nature, and that I've conquered it.

Today my sister watched my kids, picked kid up from school, and watched my dog while husband and I worked. The dog peed on her carpet, twice. The dog knocked over her garbage can. She didn't mind. She drove to my house, cleaned my entire kitchen, made lasagna, salad, and strawberry shortcake for dinner. Now she is talking to my husband and kids while I have my feet up in the den. I feel very spoiled.

Now I'm going to jump in the shower and bathe with my favorite, heavenly Ralph Lauren "Ralph" shower gel and watch some movies and play dominoes and drink a beer.

I'm happy because I get to go whale watching this weekend - the greys are migrating, and hopefully I will get close enough to get a good picture of them!

Yay! O, and that also means I'm going to eat fresh seafood too. It completely makes up for the fact that I spent my day gathering up everything we need to do taxes.

New boots! Sleek and gorgeous, with a tiny little heel. This is the first time I've attempted a heel since I was struck by a car last winter. I'm hoping the heel doesn't throw my back out of whack.

New wine glasses! They were actually a Christmas gift from my mother, but tonight is the first time I've opened a bottle of white in some time. Lovely bottle, lovely glasses.

New umbrella! With a button to open and close. Love that. And it's leopard print!

Done with the gym for the evening, and now it's FFAF on ONTD and I'm watching Across the Universe.

What made me happy today: My 15-year-old son saved $90 of his own money towards a Wii and cleaned his room from top to bottom to "earn" the remaining amount, and we made a 20-mile trek to the next "real town" to find one, and they were all sold out, but he remained in good spirits and we got a hot tip from a clerk that they will be getting a new shipment on Sunday, so we made plans to wake up early and drive over there and stand in line. Should be a memory-making adventure!
